A couple weeks ago, MAC released a new collection in collaboration with Carine Roitfeld, which features a total of 21 products — eight of which are limited edition, 11 of which are permanent, and two of which are new and will become permanent. Carine Roitfeld sees the release of two Full Face Kits, both of which include four shades of eyeshadow and one Cremeblend blush. Both of the kits are new and limited edition. Each Full Face Kit comes in matte black square mirrored compacts with the eyeshadows in one sliding compartment sitting on top and the cream blush in a second compartment sitting on the bottom. They are packaged in matte black card stock boxes with Carine Roitfeld's signature imprinted on the front. Each kit comprises of a total of 6.4 grams of eyeshadow and 5.2 grams of cream blush, and retails for $52.

Eyeshadows (swatches): Dew, "Camo", Bad Lieutenant, and Carbon

Dew is a light warm creamy beige with subtle golden shimmer-sheen in a Veluxe Pearl finish. It is a new and limited edition shade. It is very slightly on the drier side, but goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is warmer than Brulé, and lighter than Carefree Pro Longwear Eyeshadow.

"Camo" is a medium warm grey-taupe in a Satin finish. It is a new and limited edition shade. It is a new and limited edition shade. It is very slightly on the drier side, but goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is cooler and more grey than Era, and darker than Patina.

Bad Lieutenant is a blackened brown with burgundy undertones in a Matte finish. It is a new and limited edition shade. It has a very dry, stiff texture, and goes on patchy and unevenly. It has medium-high pigmentation and semi-opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered easily, but is difficult to blend out well. It is darker and more burgundy than Brun, and more reddened than Carbon.

Carbon is a soft black in a Matte finish. This is a permanent shade. It has a very dry, stiff texture, and goes on patchy and unevenly. It has medium-high pigmentation and semi-opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered easily, but is difficult to blend out well. It is more black than Black Tied.

Cremeblend Blush in Bootcamp Bronze

Cremeblend Blush in Bootcamp Bronze

Bootcamp Bronze is a medium-dark orange-tan with a soft, slightly dewy finish (but dries down to a satin finish). It is a new and limited edition shade. It has a soft, creamy texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has medium pigmentation and semi-sheer to semi-opaque buildable colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. There is nothing similar to this in MAC's permanent line-up, though the colour itself is like a softer version of Coppertone Powder Blush. In execution, it is only very slightly darker than Sand Storm (from the Desert Camouflage Face Kit).

I'm just gonna put it out there — if you're considering buying one of the Face Kits from the Carine Roitfeld collection, get the Desert Camouflage one. They are both really similar, with Jungle Camouflage featuring slightly cooler and more matte shades. Even the Cremeblend Blush is very similar; Bootcamp Bronze is only minutely darker than the one included in Desert Camouflage (Sand Storm). The only difference is that Jungle Camouflage includes much stiffer eyeshadows with sheerer colour pay-off, and I just can't say that it's worth $52. You're better off putting together a customizable eyeshadow quad at a MAC Store.

  1. I really like the colours of both kits but they look almost the same to me too and I wouldn't pay $52 for them either. And this is exactly why I want to customize a shadow kit! "Camo" is a cool colour though.

    1. For the average person who wants a portable smoky eye palette and an easy-to-use blush, these might be appealing. I think ladies in their 40s and 50s are more interested in these. Desert Camouflage is selling wayyy better than this one, though. Even though the colours are similar (you wouldn't need both palettes, for sure), the quality is better in Desert, overall. I've been using these guys for a couple weeks now, and I always grab Desert over Jungle.
