Anj and I went for lunch at Spring Rolls before a long afternoon of shopping at Fairview, which is when I found out that they offer an all you can eat menu for lunch. How come no one told me this? Had I known, I would actually have eaten at Spring Rolls way more often than, say, once every three years. As it was my first meal of the day, I could only consume the following before tapping out:
Wonton soup
Fried shrimp rolls
Chicken spring rolls
Triple cheese dumplings
Crispy battered tiger shrimp
Japanese gyoza dumplings
Har gow
Siu mai
I got so excited by their appetizers/dim sum section that I didn't even make it to the noodle, rice, and curry dishes. Or the many, many sushi rolls. A rookie mistake. I will know for next time. Okay, so the food (at least, from the dim sum section) isn't the same quality as if you ordered from their regular menu. In fact, I'm pretty sure most of it is from frozen. But for $14.99? Totally worth it. In theory, I could eat my weight in har gow and siu mai alone! So awesome. The only thing I ate that was gross was the triple cheese dumplings. (Guys, deep-fried dumplings filled with cheese sounds amazing in theory, right? Well, not in execution.) I need to bring more people with me next time so I can try more things. I will be back.

Spring Rolls as in the chain Spring Rolls???? I used to eat the crummy downtown ones all the time but I don't even see them around anymore - I think they're gone now.
ReplyDeleteI was going to say that triple cheese dumplings SOUNDS amazing but the look of it was shady! But the rest of it. OH MY GOD, AND I AM SO HUNGRY. I had like half a package of two-day old sushi and a bottle of white wine for dinner... FIVE HOURS AGO.
YES, as in the CHAIN! According to their website, all their downtown locations still exist. :)
DeleteLOL!!! Well, Liz, if you're downtown and SUPER HUNGRY, the all you can eat lunch is TOTALLY WORTH IT.
(I apologize for any hunger that my food porn has caused...)
Is Anj your vegan friend? If so, where there many vegan friendly options? I'm pretty sure Rich would kill for some pad Thai/ any kind of Asian Stir fried noodles right now!
ReplyDeleteThose shrimp spring rolls look really, really good.
How was the rest of the food?
Yes, Anj is my vegan friend, lol. And yes, there are surprisingly quite a lot of vegan options! Anj didn't get the Pad Thai, but she did get the Singapore noodles, and a ton of different sushi rolls (the Deep Fried Sweet Potato Roll and the Veggie Explosion Roll were her favourites). She also got the Szechuan Tofu & Asparagus and the Wok Tossed Chinese Greens. I think you can also ask for the Cantonese Chow Mein and the Stir-Fried Ho Fun as vegan options.
DeleteEverything was pretty good except for those triple cheese dumplings, lol. Though, to be fair, that was like, the only non-Asian option that I ordered. Next time, I'm going to focus more on the noodles/curry/rice options. And MAYBE the sushi, if I'm in the mood. But honestly, I'm kind of really sick of sushi right now, lol.
Whoohoo! Good to know, thanks! Someone's going to a happy little camper when he finds out about this!
DeleteWhat's in the Veggie Explosion Roll??
I'm not positive, but I know there's avocado in it and it's topped with deep-fried sweet potato...
DeleteWHAT?!?!? AYCE at Spring Rolls?? I think I've been living under a rock.
ReplyDeleteThat said, AYCE dim sum is kind of my idea of heaven on earth.
I KNOW, RIGHT?!?! I didn't know, either!
DeleteYou need to check it out ASAP.
