La Maison du Japon

Ben, Wynnie, and I decided to celebrate our day off with all you can eat Japanese dinner at newly renovated La Maison du Japon, where we proceeded to order way too much food. So, prepare yourself for an onslaught of food porn:

Salmon and butterfish sashimi

Salmon and avocado maki

Roasted eel maki

Fish roe, spicy butterfish, crab stick, and shrimp sushi

Salmon roses

Volcano Roll

Gold Dragon Roll

Spicy salmon hand rolls

Gyoza

Deep-fried scallops with wasabi mayo

Popcorn chicken with Japanese mayo

Calamari

Pork tonkatsu

Grilled salmon belly

Black pepper beef with garlic slices

Beef-wrapped enoki rolls

Teriyaki beef ribs

Butter sautéed shrimp

I've been going to La Maison du Japon for years; since they opened during my early teens. I remember the food always being good, but I was sort of blown away by today's assortment. The fish was fresh, the sushi and rolls were well-made and had a good rice-to-fish ratio, the grilled meats were soft and tender and perfectly cooked, and all the fried items were perfectly crisp on the outside (no sogginess here!) but not overly greasy. And they offer such an amazing variety of food — we would've tried more things if we weren't already bloatingly full. The service is good, if not on par with most all-you-can-eat Japanese restaurants: Polite, ridiculously efficient, and best of all, they speak English! After having visited Yang's Kitchen, the service by comparison is simply magical, really. Oh, and the new decor is gorgeous, too, all sleek, clean, and modernized. After having visited so many all-you-can-eat Japanese restaurants, La Maison du Japon is still my fail-safe.

  1. I'm SOOOO hungry right now! Those prawns have got my drooling! And I could live off just eating sushi. Thanks for the food porn! ;)

    1. My friend is moving to Australia for a year and we were JUST discussing how you guys say "prawns" instead of "shrimp" over there, lol! (Whereas, prawns are viewed as a bigger type of shrimp here!)

      And you're very welcome. ;)

  2. UMMM...dying for some RIGHT NOW!
I'm thinking of trying lunch at MDJ this week with Rich. I always go for dinner, but I've never had lunch there! Granted, there's no sashimi offered (which is probably why).

    1. Haha, I rarely ever go out for lunch -- I'm either working or not awake yet, lol!

For me, it's like, what's the point if there's no sashimi? :P But let me know how it goes if you do end up going for lunch. Might be worth the price...

  3. I think 75% of your food pics contain salmon and the remaining 25% are burgers or froyos, lol. As always your photos are amazing! Those deep fried scallops look scrumptious!

    1. LOL, so true. What can I say, I know what I like. :P

God, I eat way too much Japanese food, though. I went again today. All that raw fish might just give me mercury poisoning...

And thank you! Those scallops were just scrumptious little golden nuggets of addictive awesomeness...
