Joe Maggiano's Italian Steakhouse & Bar

Shawn and I had our heart set on eating at Red Lobster tonight (four-course feast for $18!), but when we got there at 8:30, we saw a massive line-up in the foyer and was told that the wait for a table for two would be at least 45 minutes. I was starving, so I was like, "Screw that," and we decided to eat at nearby Joe Maggiano's instead. (Cheddar Bay biscuits, I will devour you another time.) I was kind of surprised that it wasn't busy at all — there were maybe six or seven tables filled — but that just meant faster service for us! So, for your viewing pleasure, some food porn from tonight's dinner:

Bread drizzled with garlic oil

Spinach and artichoke dip with tortilla chips and flat bread

New York striploin steak with sweet potato fries

The spinach and artichoke dip was definitely one of the better ones I've had (definitely better than both Milestone's and Moxie's), creamy and full of spinach and artichoke (not just cheese, which is great, but then this is not a cheese dip). My steak was juicy, tender, and flavourful without the need for sauce or extra seasoning, but I found that my supposedly medium-rare steak was definitely medium and even medium-well in some spots. I should really just order rare next time, because I know a lot of steaks will continue to cook as it makes its way to the table. And those sweet potato fries are addictive as hell, and also some of the better ones I've had (at least compared with those from pubs and chain restaurants), served with a delightful creamy chipotle dip. Other than the unsmiling, unwelcoming hostess, the service was decent; our waitress was friendly, attentive, and efficient. I'm actually not sure why I hadn't tried Joe Maggiano's before, seeing as I am always in that area, but I will definitely be going back — the pizzas and pasta dishes are calling out to me!

  1. Dang Chica, that looks so good. I love me some RL, but I can get down with a good steak too. Oh and the sweet potato fries look so scrummy too. I've had dinner and now I want to make something. Yikes.

    1. Yes, it's the one in the Chuck-E-Cheese plaza! :)

So I totally love sweet potato fries and will usually order it over fries if the place offers it... and you know what I found out about Shawn yesterday? He doesn't like sweet potato fries. Like, WHAT? How have I been dating him for over a year and not know that? And also, how do you not like sweet potato fries? Like, my mind is blown.

And, agreed, RL's lobster dip is ridiculously good. Have you eaten the dip with those biscuits (those orgasm-inducing biscuits)? OH GOD I DIE.

  3. Wow, that steak looks amazing. I haven't had steak in a long time. *salivating*

But there's no Joe M. near me. However, there is a Red Lobster. Is that deal going on for a while? Maybe that should be dinner... hmmm.

    1. I feel like I need to eat more steak. My life needs more beefy goodness!

I think Red Lobster's deal just started this month, so it's probably still going on for at least a couple more weeks. :D Eat, like, eighteen of those biscuits for me...
