Dior Garden Party: Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss Glow in Pretty Rose

Dior's Spring 2012 collection, aptly named Garden Party, is inspired by the garden surrounding Christian Dior's home in Granville, France. This collection is available at all Dior counters, Sephora, and online. This collection features 12 new products in total, of which two are online exclusives, and they are all limited edition. With this collection, Dior has released two shades of Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss (one of which will not be reviewed here). Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss is a featherweight, "flash-plumping" lip gloss with hyaluronic spheres to keep lips smooth and moisturized, while "mirror-like micro-pearls reflect light in all directions for a dazzling finish." They have a very subtle vanilla scent, but are taste-free. Each lip gloss comes in Dior's signature clear logo-embossed tube with a Lucite top and silver "knob" cap. It contains 6.3 grams of product in total, comes with a brush applicator, and retails for $31.

Pretty Rose is a light-medium pinked peach. It goes on very smooth, even, and creamy, with low buildable pigmentation and semi-sheer colour pay-off. It will suit fair to medium-dark skintones more; those with dark to deep dark skintones will find this looks almost clear. It is darker and more pink than MAC Boy Bait Cremesheen Glass, less pink than MAC Just Superb Cremesheen Glass, and much more peach than MAC Ample Pink Plushglass.

This is definitely one of those shades that I'd reach for all the time, and one that looks lovely on its own and fantastic on top of lipstick. As many of you will know, my favourite lip gloss formula is MAC's Cremesheen Glass, which is lightweight and non-sticky with semi-sheer to semi-opaque colour pay-off. And it seems that Dior's Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss is like a much better version of that. It has similar colour pay-off, but is even more lightweight and non-sticky. It glides on like a dream, and once I put it on, I totally understood what "flash-plumping" is: My lips instantly looked fuller, juicier, smoother, just plain better. And with none of that tingly plumping nonsense. Whereas Cremesheen Glass is sometimes prone to streaking and bleeding (and lighter colours also emphasize lines and dry flakes), Ultra-Gloss doesn't. So, there you go. Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss is now my new favourite lip gloss formula.

  1. I love how pretty this looks in the tube but I have a hard time spending a lot of money on sheer lippies. Bet it's such a nice feeling to pull this out and use it though... gaaaaaah! lol

    1. LOL, sometimes I take out the tube just to look at it. :P SO PRETTY. I think there's always a time and place for sheer lippies or opaque lippies... Sometimes I just don't feel like wearing a full-blown colour, you know? But this gloss isn't the most unique, to be fair. You can definitely find a cheaper alternative. I may need to get more of this formula though, 'cause it's so gorgeous. :)
