When I first heard that Vosges Haut Chocolat came out with a chocolate bar that included bacon, I was like, "Um, I must try it immediately." Because, hello, there's bacon in it. I thought, "Could it be too much of a good thing, chocolate and bacon? I don't know, but I want to find out." Of course, I didn't know where to find these bars, so I just forgot about it. But on our trip to McEwan last week, Shawn and I spotted an assortment of Vosges chocolate bars right in front of us as we were checking out. And there it was: Mo's Bacon Bar. Mo's Bacon Bar has become so popular that Vosges now has a whole array of chocolate and bacon goodies. So I grabbed one, even though it was $9.99, and it's pretty damn steep for a chocolate bar.
What is Mo's Bacon Bar, you ask? It's Applewood smoked bacon and Alderwood smoked salt in deep milk chocolate. And the conclusion? It's pretty damn good. I mean, it's definitely an acquired taste, but I love the marriage of the salty and sweet with a hint of smokiness. It kind of reminds me of breakfast: chocolate chip pancakes with a side of bacon. Is it worth $10? Maybe not; I don't know if I'd buy these regularly. It's definitely a once-in-a-while treat. But for those who lined up at The Ex last year for chocolate-dipped bacon, this is a must-try. If you're like me, it's the intrigue that'll draw you in. I think I will try the Wooloomooloo, Barcelona, and Bapchi's Caramel Toffee bars next. I'm a sucker for sweet and salty hybrids.
