MAC Jeanius

MAC's Jeanius collection was released today in-stores and online (for non-Pro members). If the name of the collection doesn't make it obvious enough, this collection is inspired by denim jeans. Most of the collection is fairly cool-toned, but there are a few items that would look great on warm skintones as well. Out of the 17 items launched with this collection, I picked up five that interested me the most (none of the lip colours appealed to me at all).

MAC released four new and limited edition shades of Jeanius Eyeshadow. Each shadow has a "photo-transfer denim finish," meaning they're embossed with an imprint and overspray to mimic the look of jeans (more specifically, the front waist/belt loop area of jeans). The size of these eyeshadows are larger than the ones in the permanent range; they're similar to the ones released with Peacocky. Of the four shades, I picked up two: Motorhead is a brighter navy blue with a satin sheen, and Stovepipe Black is a darkened taupe-charcoal grey with a metallic finish. Stovepipe Black is more richly pigmented and smoother than Motorhead, but I found that both of them swatched quite nicely and there wasn't any fall-out for either shade.

Also launched with the Jeanius collection are two new and limited edition shades of powder blush. The first shade, called Pink Cult, is a very soft, muted, neutral beige pink in a matte finish. It is a slightly lighter shade, so it's best for light to medium skintones, but it provides a very soft, subtle colour to the cheeks. Great for those who want a more natural-looking blush. The second shade, Overdyed, is a mid-tone, slightly muted magenta in a satin finish. This doesn't go on in-your-face bright, but as it is still a magenta, it's definitely a noticeable pink. It's one of the more wearable magenta shades out there, and will look great on all skintones and undertones. It reminds me of the Amazon Princess blush duo from the MAC Wonder Woman collection, or Chanel's Tweed Fuchsia blush. Both blushes here are easy to blend, have great pigmentation and colour pay-off.

I also picked up one of the two new and limited edition shades of Nail Lacquer, called Biker Blue. It has a inky blue-black base with brighter blue and navy shimmer in it. It's not the most original shade, but it looks gorgeous in the bottle and on the nails. I'm sure there are dupes of this out there available, but I haven't found any in my stash. It's a slightly thinner formula, so three coats is needed for a fully opaque look, but it does look beautiful and rich when done.
