There are four lipstick shades launched with the MAC Wonder Woman collection. Two are new and limited edition, one is a re-promote, and one is permanent. They are the same size as MAC's regular lipsticks. They are $18.50 each, which is a dollar more than MAC's regular lipsticks, presumably for the special packaging.
I picked up three of the four shades. Russian Red is an opaque, rich, slightly blue-based red in a Matte finish. This is a permanent shade. Even though it has a matte finish, it's very rich and creamy, not drying (like Ruby Woo). It's long-lasting and does leave a stain after a few hours of wear. And while it is blue-based in the tube and in swatches, I find this actually ends up looking very neutral on my lips (neither too cool or too warm). Marquise D' is a semi-sheer, pink-based nude with a subtle champagne sheen in a Lustre finish, and is a re-promoted shade. It's not a very unique or exciting shade, but it's nice to pair with a more dramatic eye or to lighten up naturally dark lips. This is good for those who don't usually like to wear lipstick. It reminds me of a sheer version of MAC Cherish lipstick. Spitfire is an opaque, muted magenta pink in a Satin finish. It goes on smoothly and isn't drying at all. It will leave a stain after a few hours of wear. When worn, it reminds me of a deeper and more pink version of MAC's Up The Amp. It's a super-fun colour without being overly bright, and is a lovely shade for Spring.
There are also four new and limited edition shades of Lipglass released with MAC Wonder Woman. Like the Mineralize Skinfinishes and the Blush Duos, the Lipglasses are super-sized and are $24 each (compared to the regular-priced $17.50). Each tube comes with 10.5 grams of product, versus the 4.8 grams in a regular-sized Lipglass. Because of the larger tubes, they also comes with larger applicators which can be cumbersome to apply, especially to those with smaller lips. A little annoying thing about these glosses is that the applicators are almost too big for the tubes, so that there is always a little glob of gloss that flies out of the tube as you're pulling the applicator out.
Of the four shades, I picked up two. Athena's Kiss is a semi-opaque, cool-toned fuchsia pink with white and fuchsia shimmer. I find that this shade can be easily worn on its own, as it is rather pigmented for a gloss. Wonder Woman is a semi-opaque, bright true red with gold shimmer. It reminds me of a slightly less opaque and shimmerless version of MAC's Russian Red Lipglass, or a warmer version of MAC's Wicked Ways Lipglass, which was released with the Venemous Villains collection last fall. This is a great to wear on top of a red lipstick to really get a juicy, luscious red lip look.
I don't think a MAC launch has ever caught my attention as much as WW has in terms of its packaging. Love the box and you're right, it would have been even better if the containers had the same design.
ReplyDeleteAnd you got Russian Red ;-). Doesn't it give your lips the nicest just-bitten look?!
P.S. I'm looking for the perfect nudish-pink lipstick. Any suggestions? I've looked at swatches of Crosswires online and I love the colour, but would like something more opaque or matte.
There were a few MAC launches over the past year that were well-done in terms of packaging. Last year's Liberty of London and To The Beach collections were beautiful! :) I also liked a lot of the colours from Venomous Villains, even if the packaging looked a bit cheap.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I finally got Russian Red! It's funny, I have a lot of the other MAC reds (even Ruby Woo!), but not Russian Red. I'm glad I finally got it (I always recommend it to my customers, but I never wear it myself, lol)! I love that you can wear it full coverage for that classic Marilyn Monroe red lip look, or dab it on top of a lip balm for a more popsicle-stain kind of look. :)
I find that MAC's Cherish is a great nude for Asian skintones. Other suggestions: YSL's Rouge Volupte in #2 Sensual Silk, Lancome's L'Absolu Rouge Lipstick in Rich Cashmere, Guerlain's Rouge G Lipstick in Gardenia, and Nars' Belle de Jour. Hope that helps!
Crosswires is a Cremesheen finish, so it's buildable coverage. If you want a more vibrant coral, there's always Vegas Volt! Love this shade for summer! Lancome's Color Design Matte Lipstick in Corset and YSL's Rouge Volupte Lipstick in #27 Rose Paris are also gorgeous!
Thanks for the recs!!! You're so good at this!
ReplyDeleteI'm totally gonna stop by the mall tomorrow during my lunch break and try Corset. Though, the last thing I should be doing right now is buying makeup. Bahhh well.
Haha, any time! And I should hope I'm good at this; I've been doing it for six years! ;)
ReplyDeleteOooh, if you're looking at Lancome's Colour Design Matte Lipsticks, also check out Stylista while you're looking at Corset. It's a beautiful softened coral-peach. :)
And, yeah, I hear you with the buying too much make-up... :/
