My mom took me out for an early birthday dinner last night at The Pickle Barrel, where I got the seafood linguine with shrimp, mussels, calamari, and julienne vegetables in light chardonnay cream sauce. There's a few items on the Pickle Barrel menu that I always go back to (most of the pastas, the steak fajitas, the deli burger with cheddar, the pan-fried tilapia with creamy lobster topping, etc.) because I find myself extremely disappointed when I stray (e.g. any and every dish from Rose Reisman's Art of Living Well). And the seafood linguine is always a good time.
I'd have to say, however, that pretty much their entire dessert menu sucks. It has so much potential, but I'm never satisfied. I think the only dessert that was decent was their Triple Threat Chocolate Sundae, and even then, I got sick of it half way through. Tonight, I ordered the Crumble Top Apple Pie, and it was probably one of the worse apple pies I've had in a while. As far as apple pies go, this one was pretty tasteless, hence the over-enthusiastic sprinkling of cinnamon on the plate. The crumble top was like a granola bar broken up and piled on top. And the pie was cold, which could've easily been solved. I never return food and I don't like wasting, so I tried eating most of it, but... yeah, it sucked.
