Okay, this was totally not what I was expecting, but in the best way possible. Based on the teaser, I thought this was going to be totally '70s disco, but it's screaming '80s because it's giving me serious Michael Jackson-meets-"Maneater" vibes.
Play me slow
Push up on this funk and give me miracles
(Let ya body know)
Make it known
How we left and right is something we control
(You already know)
You know that all night long we rock to this
Screaming I testify this lovin’
All night long we flock to this
Screaming I testify that
We’ll survive the test of time
They can’t deny our love
They can’t divide us we’ll survive
The test of time
I promise I’ll be right here
Standing next to you
Standing in the fire next to you
You know it’s deeper than the rain
It’s deeper than the pain
When it’s deep like DNA
Something they can’t take away, ay
Take-take-take-take-take-take off
Standing next to you
Standing next to you
Standing next to you
Afterglow
Leave ya body golden like the sun and the moon
(You already know)
You know that all night long we rock to this
Screaming I testify this lovin’
All night long we flock to this
Screaming I testify that
We’ll survive the test of time
They can’t deny our love
They can’t divide us we’ll survive the test of time
I swear that I’ll be right here
Standing next to you
Standing in the fire next to you
You know it’s deeper than the rain
It’s deeper than the pain
When it’s deep like DNA
Something they can’t take away, ay
Take-take-take-take-take-take off
Standing next to you
Standing next to you
(Bass and drums)
Standing next to you
Just as I thought JK's vocals couldn't get any better, he releases this song. His tone, his range, his clarity — it's mind-blowingly impressive. And don't even get me started on this insane choreography, the most outstanding in his solo career yet. (Waiting for that dance practice video.) I actually have no idea what this MV is about (there's some sort of stretch limo conference going on that turns into a theatre in which the limo drivers get into fist fights while there's group dancing on the stage behind them and I guess this random woman is really impressed with it all?), but JK is looking fucking god tier here. This is gonna be controversial, but I like this significantly more than "Seven" or "3D." No forced rap verses, no vulgar lyrics — just pure, seamless vocals and sexy sophistication. I can't wait to listen to the rest of GOLDEN.
