Unboxing: Artist-Made Collection by BTS — ARMY Jogger Pants by RM

The Artist-Made Collection by BTS was a curation of items designed by each of the seven members from concept to execution. Each member created two unique items, of which the processes are documented here. This collection was originally launched in January — each members' items had a staggered release over the course of three weeks. I've already written about how much frustration occurred in trying to acquire any of the pieces from BTS' Artist-Made Collection, so I won't rehash that here because it was quite a long diatribe, but my third piece from the collection arrived last week: RM's ARMY jogger pants. These sweatpants retailed for $82.68 USD, which is not unreasonable, but international shipping was a whopping $64.68 USD, which is highway robbery, and then duties and taxes were $33.68, which is highway robbery at gunpoint. Basically: DHL, I fucking hate you.

Dust Bag

These sweatpants come with a white dust bag, which has the words, "Artist-Made Collection by BTS: RM" on the front printed in black. All the contents are packed neatly inside a large PVC pouch. These pants came in two different colour waves, light grey and black, so I obviously chose black. To be honest, these sweatpants aren't particularly unique — when I decided to buy them, it was more for practical reasons rather than design. As I live in Canada, I live in sweatpants for about half the year so this item is worth it for me simply because the cost per use will be low.

Front + Back

There are a several things that I look for in sweatpants. Obviously, comfort is key. These ones have the ideal unisex fit. Loose but not overly baggy. Cuffed at the ankle so they don't drag on the floor, but not too tight. Adjustable drawstrings at the waistband that can be hidden inside the pants rather than hanging outside. Pockets that are deep enough to fit a big smartphone. Comfortable material that is warm but not too thick so they're flexible and easy to move in, and is easy to wash but won't fade. And an added bonus: these have a butt pocket! Dare I say these are the perfect sweatpants?

Drawstring Details

Despite its simplicity, there are two small details that separate these from other sweatpants. One is the baby blue ARMY logo by the front left pocket. It's discreet enough that non-ARMY won't notice what it is, but obvious enough that ARMY will recognize the logo right away. The second detail is in the drawstring cord ends, which have the words "By BTS" written on them in matching baby blue. This detail is definitely too discreet to notice without seeing up close (which would be awkward given the placement of the drawstrings), but is a nice little addition nonetheless to drive home the point that this product is made by BTS.

The sweatpants also come with a single brown paper envelope that has RM's name written in his handwriting on the front. The first item in this envelope is a photocard of RM wearing the final sweatpants design on the front and the words, "ARMY Jogger Pants" on the back. And the second item is a "Making Log" fold out, which shows the entire process of making this hoodie in sketches and photos, from product planning to final review. Like all of the items that were created for this collection, it screams "BTS!" but in a way that isn't obviously to anyone but ARMY. Now I just have to wait until summer's over to wear them without actually sweating. (What, do people actually buy sweatpants to sweat in them?)
