Met up with Ronsee for our monthly dinner meet-up this evening. I suggested to go to Jin Korean Noodles since we were craving Korean and I have been meaning to go back to try their noodles for months. We decided to share an order of their king-size steamed meat and vegetable dumplings and the spicy stir-fried pork and kalguksu combo, which also came with rice and an assortment of banchan.
King-sized steamed meat and vegetable dumplings
Jaeyuk (stir-fried spicy pork) combo
Signature kalguksu
The dumplings were delicious, juicy and huge and plump, and paired perfectly with kimchi. Definitely one of the popular items here, since nearly every table had an order. But the star of the show is obviously the kalguksu, or knife-cut noodle soup. (The restaurant is called Jin Korean Noodles for a reason.) The noodles have the perfect amount of chew and bounce, and the broth had a light, umami flavour that makes it ideal to pair with any meat, seafood, or vegetable. Ours was topped with minced meat, cucumbers, carrots, and green onion, which is the standard with all of their kalguksu combos. It's just a very warm, delicious, comforting dish — especially great on a cold, rainy day like today. While the combo is a decent portion size, both Ronsee and I would've much rather have had more noodles than rice. (The amount of noodles in the combos are significantly less than their standard noodle orders.) Will definitely be coming back for one of their giant bowls of kalguksu very, very soon, because NOODLE SOUP SEASON HAS BEGUN.
