In a continuous exploration of desserts, this is part two of a three-part series of Butter Baker because as awesome as their soft serve is, it is a bakery and it would be churlish of us not to try their baked goods. So, pastries! We got the butter croissant, ham and cheese croissant, almond walnut croissant, and strawberry vanilla croissant (not pictured: the pan au chocolat, because the top got stuck to the bag and thus was no longer photogenic; also, there was no room left on the plate).
Clockwise from left: Butter croissant, ham and cheese croissant, almond walnut croissant, and strawberry vanilla croissant
All of them were quite excellent — flaky on the outside, good chew on the inside, not too sweet or salty. However, the ham and cheese croissant seemed rather bland; you'd expect the combination of ham and cheese to be more savoury, more intense, but the flavours don't permeate throughout the croissant, and you only really taste the ham or cheese when you bite into that part directly. Not bad, of course — the texture is still excellent — but there are better iterations out there. My personal favourite is the almond walnut croissant which, as a nut lover, was just perfection. The ratio of almond filling to flaky croissant is ideal; you get the almond flavour in every bite but it's not overwhelming or too sweet. And there's candied walnuts on top, which are just... magical. We will be back, hopefully earlier in the day. The pear tart is calling my name.
