What better way to start out a new year of dining out than with Korean fried chicken?

Onion King Chicken
Went to try out Chicken in the Kitchen for dinner with Ying tonight 'cause we were craving some good ol' KFC. We couldn't decide between the Cheese Volcano Chicken (fried chicken in rose sauce with crispy rice cakes, potato wedges, and a bread bowl of gouda and parmesan) and the Onion King Chicken (fried chicken in a sweet chili sauce with sliced onions, potato wedges, and topped with fried onion rings), so like any good Korean fried chicken connoisseur would do, we got both. (Both of these dishes only come in full sizes, which means a whole chicken each. No, we're not that ambitious to think we could finish both — leftovers are for tomorrow's lunch, of course!) Both are good, but the Cheese Volcano Chicken is the unanimous winner for both of us. I mean, it comes with a BREAD BOWL OF CHEESE. (Onion King didn't stand a chance, quite frankly.)
My only complaint is the fact that they only use white meat in these two dishes. As someone who always prefers dark meat, this was a bit of a disappointment 'cause white meat has less flavour and less moisture. While the sauce obviously helps, a mix of both white and dark meat would've been nice if only to provide some textural variety. I will definitely come back to try out some of the other fried chicken offerings, like the Gold Fried Chicken (fried chicken topped with potato wedges and cheddar) or the Supreme Red Hot Chili (their spicy fried chicken with peanut toppings and garlic sauce), both of which come in half portions and dark meat. Overall, Chicken in the Kitchen is one of the more unique Korean fried chicken joints around, and definitely worth checking out.
