The new Steve Aoki x BTS collab came out today, marking "Waste It on Me" the first original song that BTS has sang entirely in English. Some people are like, "BTS is K-pop! It shouldn't be in English!" But this is a Steve Aoki song that is on Steve Aoki's upcoming album — not BTS'. (BTS has already stated that they have no plans to make an English-speaking album.) People are also up in arms about how the song only features two members — RM and Jungkook — though I can definitely hear Jimin in there as well (you can distinctly hear his voice when he and Jungkook harmonize together, "So if love is nothing more than just a waste of your time, waste it on me" — and that high note at "time" is indisputably Jimin's). People are saying it's false advertising, that the song should have involved all seven of them, etc. But really, if there's more than one member of a group participating in a collab, they're going to be featured as the group. This is very common practice in collabs and it's usually up to their respective labels, anyway, not the individuals as artists. My point is, butthurt ARMYs need to get over themselves. This song is a catchy fucking bop. There's no deeper meaning, there's no hidden messages; it's just a fun collab with a great beat and great vocals, and the more you listen to it, the more addictive it gets. So can't we just appreciate it for what it its?
