Last day in NYC. Chelsea had wanted to see Central Park before leaving since she had never been, so we searched for a good place for brunch that was close to the park so we could walk there afterwards. We decided on a restaurant called Jams that has excellent ratings on Google. They serve "California cuisine," which I had never heard of, but Wikipedia says "it focuses on dishes that are driven by local and sustainable ingredients with an attention to seasonality and emphasize the bounty of the region." To be honest, I didn't really pay attention to where the ingredients were from, but the food was tasty and that was all that mattered to me.

One thing I've noticed about brunch in NYC is that one dish is never enough to make you full (ironically, given that we're in America which is known for gigantic portions) and they always serve salad with little to no dressing on the side (e.g. plain lettuce) which really equates to eating nothing. So I have since learned that you need to order at least three dishes between two people to get sufficiently full. Thus, we shared the Jams omelet, which includes locally smoked ham, Cabot clothbound cheddar, and scallions with a side of mixed greens (of course), and then each got the housemade brioche French toast with strawberry-peach compote and fresh whipped cream. Both were quite excellent, though for the $19 price tag, I wish the omelet was bigger and contained more filling (maybe they didn't order enough ingredients from those local farms?). The French toast was more unique and exceptional, with a nice fluffy texture on the inside and a nice crisp surface, and the thick whipped cream mellowing out the intense sweet-tart flavour of the compote. I don't usually like sweet dishes for breakfast or brunch, but this one was actually fantastic.

As promised, I took Chelsea to Central Park to walk around for a bit. We only had about 30 minutes there, though, because we still had to subway back to our hotel to pick up our luggage and Uber to the airport. Still, it was nice to get a little nature in after four straight days of concrete and cityscape. We got to the airport just before 3:00 PM, took off a little after 5:00 PM, and arrived in Toronto by 6:30 PM. The first thing we did after leaving the airport? Stopped by Tim Horton's for coffee. I love NYC, but there's nothing like coming back home to double-doubles and Canadian hospitality. I do, however, miss BTS already.
