It finally happened. I went to see BTS in Hamilton on Sunday. It was one of the most surreal experiences I've ever had, maybe because I have spent so much time watching them on YouTube and V Live and their DVDs. I've watched so much live footage of them that it's like I knew exactly what to expect... and yet I was still completely blown away by experiencing them in person. The amount of work that goes into each concert is somewhat unfathomable. It's a complete spectacle; a feast for the eyes and ears.
They opened with "IDOL," of course, moving straight into "Save Me" and "I'm Fine," and then their fan song from Love Yourself: Tear, "Magic Shop." First costume change of the night because they have to be incredibly sweaty and uncomfortable after all that intense choreo. What I appreciate about these five minute intermissions is that they play these cute VCRs (this is what K-pop groups call the video sketches in between songs — it's not quite a short film, but almost like a teaser) to keep us entertained and give us a little sneak peek of what's to come while they freshen up. The first video sketch was of J-Hope and Jungkook horsing around and having fun, which of course, was was followed by the first two solo songs of the night, J-Hope's "Trivia: Just Dance" and Jungkook's "Euphoria."

Sounds like you had a fantastic time! I am so happy for you.
ReplyDeleteHave to admit I did not understand the BTS ARMY Bomb Version 3 until I checked out a BTS concert on YouTube. That was so cool. I see why Version 2 was superseded for the Bluetooth synching function.
There have been SCANDAL concerts when glow sticks or "rally towels" were distributed to the audience but I don't see that working outside of Asia. Or Canada. If they tried that in USA, SCANDAL would be dodging glow sticks or rally towels tied in a knot like Foo Fighters and Mentos. The ARMY Bomb is cool and kind of expensive so that might work in America.
What is the next big thing? Super Bowl? Tokyo 2020 Olympics? BTS ARMY Bomb is the way of the future.

Thank you! And yes, I didn't realize the full potential of the ARMY Bomb Ver.3 until I saw it in person. Honestly, it adds such a beautiful element to their concerts!
DeleteI do think BTS incorporated the use of their light stick in a way that is essential to their live shows. It's why they have a separate "express" merch tent and "pairing booths" just for the light stick. Like, I think you'd feel really left out at a BTS show without one. Smart marketing!
