Friday Five: Sandwich or Nah?

This week's Friday Five:
  1. Why is or isn't a hot dog a sandwich? A hot dog is not a sandwich because it consists of a singular bun, and by definition a sandwich is an item of food "wherein two or more pieces of bread serve as a container or wrapper for another food type." If you took the sausage and placed it between two pieces of bread, though, it would become a sandwich.

  2. Why is or isn't a hamburger a sandwich? Yes, a hamburger is technically a sandwich because it consists of a patty in between two pieces of bread.

  3. Why is or isn't a wrap a sandwich? I wouldn't classify a wrap as a sandwich because it doesn't consist of any bread, let alone two or more pieces of bread.

  4. Why are or aren't Oreos and ice cream sandwiches sandwiches? They are not technically sandwiches because they don't consist of bread, but they are sandwich-style foods in that the filling is placed between two "holders." Like, an Oreo is a sandwich cookie but not a standalone sandwich.

  5. Why does or doesn't listening to an audio book count as reading the book? I don't think it counts as reading the book because it's not actually reading. Listening to an audio book is hearing a story, so it counts as knowing the literature, but not reading the book. At the end, you'll know the content, but the cognitive process and development are totally different.
