This week's Saturday Nine:

  1. In this song, Mariah pledges to "have faith in all you do." Have you recently given someone support or a pep talk? Yeah, this week, with my best friend and with a co-worker.

  2. Mariah was at the centre of a controversy in Times Square on New Year's Eve when she had audio problems and claimed she could not perform. Times Square is at the busy intersection of Broadway and 7th Avenue. If we went to the busy intersection nearest your home, what would we find? (A store? A church? McDonald's?) In the southwest corner, there's an Esso gas station; in the northwest corner, there's a plaza with an Eggsmart, a walk-in clinic, and some other miscellaneous independent boutiques; in the northeast corner, there's a big plaza with a supermarket, a dollar store, a convenience store, a nail salon, and a bunch of restaurants; and in the southeast corner, there's a much smaller plaza with an optometrist, a dentist, and a dermatologist.

  3. Her nickname in high school was Mirage because she cut school so often. Did you ever play hookey? In high school, I only played hookey in senior year, but it wasn't often. They were pretty lenient on seniors skipping class, but I went to a very competitive, academic private school, so if you missed class, it was on you to catch up on all the work. Failure wasn't an option; if your overall average was under 70%, they would set up a meeting with you and your parents and discuss how you were going to improve your grades or they would expel you by the end of the term.

  4. Mariah doesn't apologize for spoiling her dogs, who have been known to travel by limo. Do you know anyone who treats his/her pets like people? No... but come to think of it, most of my friends don't even have pets. And the people I do know who have pets just treat them like their pets. Like, would dogs even know the difference between traveling by limo or by dump truck? I doubt it.

  5. Mariah has something to fall back on. She studied cosmetology and worked as a hair sweeper in a salon. When you get your hair cut, do you socialize with the stylist? Nope. I get my hair cut at an Asian salon and they don't speak a lot of English so I just bring a book and keep myself occupied.

  6. When married to her first husband, Mariah went vegetarian. Tell us about last night's dinner. Would it qualify as a vegetarian meal? Oh, definitely not. We went for Middle Eastern food at Paramount last evening, and I had their "Mixed Grill" plate which comes with grilled skewers of striploin beef, shish taouk, and kafta. But it did come with some tomato and lettuce and pickled beets, so it wasn't totally veggie-less.

  7. This week's song was introduced by The Jackson 5. Think of your favourite Michael Jackson song. Did he record it solo or with his brothers? I don't really think of Jackson 5 songs as Michael Jackson songs. My favourite Jackson 5 song is "I Want You Back" and my favourite Michael Jackson song is "Billie Jean."

  8. In 1992, when this song was popular, The Mall of America opened. Located in Minnesota, it's the biggest mall in the nation, with more than 400 stores. Think about the last thing you purchased. Were you shopping out of necessity, or for fun? I went to Wal-Mart last night and bought a pack of Tylenol Cold, a pack of Reactine, a box of tampons, and six packs of Wet Ones anti-bacterial wipes. So, definitely not for fun.

  9. Have you ever shoplifted? (Don't worry. We won't tell.) Yeah, when I was a kid.
