MAC Mariah Carey: Lipglass in Rainbow Interlude, Dreamlover, It's Just Like Honey, Little Miss Monroe, and Butterfly Bling

Today, MAC will be launching their collaboration collection with Mariah Carey in stores (it launched online last Thursday and promptly sold out). It includes a total of 23 products, of which 20 are new and limited edition, two are re-promotes, and one is permanent and in special edition packaging. The Mariah Carey collection sees the launch of five new and limited edition shades of Lipglass. The glosses are housed in "luxurious packaging in silver glitter with champagne gold accents and Mariah's signature." Each Lipglass contains 3.1 grams of product, and retails for $23. Due to the special edition nature of the collection, these Lipglasses are not redeemable as a free product for the Back to MAC recycling program.

Rainbow Interlude is a light neutral translucent pink with pink and silver iridescent micro-glitter. This is a new and limited edition shade. It has a creamy, slightly tacky texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has low pigmentation and sheer colour pay-off. It is similar to Viva Glam Ariana Grande, and more shimmery than Pretty Plush Plushglass.

Dreamlover is a light-medium warm slightly milky peachy pink with pink and gold iridescent micro-glitter. This is a new and limited edition shade. It has a creamy, slightly tacky texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has low pigmentation and sheer colour pay-off. It is warmer and milkier than Viva Glam Ariana Grande, and more shimmery than Nice Buzz Plushglass.

It's Just Like Honey is a medium warm golden peach with gold iridescent shimmer. This is a new and limited edition shade. It has a creamy, slightly tacky texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has low-medium pigmentation and semi-sheer colour pay-off. It is sheerer and more golden than Big Baby Plushglass, and more orange and more shimmery than Ray of Sunshine Mineralize Glass.

Little Miss Monroe is a medium warm golden orange with gold iridescent shimmer. This is a new and limited edition shade. It has a creamy, slightly tacky texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has low-medium pigmentation and semi-sheer colour pay-off. It is more yellow and more shimmery than Ray of Sunshine Mineralize Glass, and more yellow than Big Baby Plushglass.

Butterfly Bling is a medium warm rose copper with gold and pink iridescent micro-glitter. This is a new and limited edition shade, and is an online exclusive. It has a creamy, slightly tacky texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has low-medium pigmentation and semi-sheer colour pay-off. It is more pink than Big Baby Plushglass.

In virtually every photo of Mariah, she is sporting a warm, neutral, shimmery, glossy lip. So, naturally, in a Mariah Carey makeup collection, you will find lip glosses with lots of shimmer in warm neutral shades. With the discontinuation of both Dazzleglass and Lustreglass lip gloss formulas this year, there actually aren't a lot of dupes to these anymore in MAC's current permanent range, but I would say that the finish of all five shades here are somewhere in between the two — sheer to semi-sheer, high shine, and sparkly — but in a classic Lipglass formula (slightly tacky, but also longer wearing — about three to four hours). Since they don't give a lot of colour pay-off, all of them will suit all skintones (even Little Miss Monroe, which looks really yellow in swatches but actually quite soft and muted on the lip) and also make great layering glosses for almost all lip colours. If you are someone who likes full coverage or a cream finish in your glosses, you're gonna want to skip these, but if you like ultra-shiny, shimmery glosses in neutral shades that will go with everything, these are definitely worth looking at.
