I finally got to see CHVRCHES perform live on Monday at The Danforth Music Hall (the second of two shows they were playing in Toronto) with my friend Austin. I have been listening to their new album, Every Open Eye, on repeat since its release a couple weeks ago, and it's a surprisingly well-rounded record; there's actually not a single song that I dislike on it, even the ones in which Lauren Mayberry isn't the main vocalist. It's a relief that they haven't suffered the sophomore slump, and it only made me more excited to see them perform their new material live along with, of course, old favourites from their first record.

I have only ever seen their other live performances through videos on YouTube, but from what I can see, they've really matured and worked on their stage presence. Gone are the days of stiff, awkward, uncomfortable movements — they are freer, looser, more dynamic, and more involved, making their show an absolute joy to watch and participate in. I'm used to rock shows with mosh pits, so it was a really nice change to take part of what really amounted to a really fun dance party.
