This past Thursday, MAC released their major annual Spring colour collection called MAC Is Beauty, inspired by spas, salons, and "a world of pure, delicious vanity, where you can preen supreme to get that wow factor, emerging perfectly coiffed, polished, and all glammed up. What's wrong with being a little high-maintenance?" The entire collection features a total of 49 products, of which 18 are new and limited edition, 13 are re-promotes, 10 are permanent, five are re-promotes and will become permanent, and three are new and will become permanent. MAC Is Beauty will see the launch of 12 shades of lipstick (one of which will not be reviewed here). Each lipstick comes in regular black packaging, contains 3 grams of product, and retails for $19. These are applicable for the Back to MAC recycling program at all MAC locations.

With a whopping 12 limited edition shades, I think this is MAC's biggest lipstick launch within a single seasonal collection. The shades range from pastel to bright and sheer to opaque, and are all Springtime-appropriate, so there is something for everyone. That having been said, the majority of these have a Lustre finish, which I have found people either love or hate. They are generally sheer and buildable to semi-opaque colour coverage, and have a shiny, jelly-like finish. Though some people find them drying over time, a lot of people find them comfortable to wear and the shades to be more widely flattering because they start off sheer (I have to note that the lighter or milkier shades tend to emphasize lip texture, so prep lips accordingly). If you like your lipsticks to have more pigmentation, or a creamier consistency, or a less shiny finish, you might want to look at the non-Lustre finishes. A lot of the shades here are quite dupeable within MAC's permanent range, though, so definitely look at your stash to see if you have something similar already.

  1. All those tubes lined up together so neatly... beauty porn at its finest! Make Me Gorgeous is super pretty but I'm so overwhelmed by lipsticks right now, lol.

    1. Lol, there's just something about a line-up of brand-new, pristine lipsticks, ya know?

And yeah, I totally agree... I think releasing 12 shades all at once is really overwhelming for people... and none of these are unique enough to be must-haves, IMO. That, and the majority of these are sheer and shiny. Had these been Amplified or Satin, I think people would've gone nuts for them.
