Tomorrow, MAC will be releasing their first major summer colour collection, Alluring Aquatic, in stores. It is inspired by "mythological sirens of the deep" and 1940s "aquamusicals" (such as those featuring Esther Williams). The entire collection features a total of 32 products, of which 29 are new and limited edition, and three are permanent at all locations. Alluring Aquatic will see the launch of six new and limited edition shades of Extra Dimension Eyeshadow. It is described as "a liquid-powder eyeshadow with prismatic reflections in six shimmering tints. Impact ranges from sheer crystallized light to a highly polished metallic effect." They come in special edition metallic teal pots with clear lids that are "elegantly accented with sheer water droplets," as well as matching secondary cardstock boxes. Each Extra Dimension Eyeshadow contains 1.3 grams of product, and retails for $22.50. Due to the special edition packaging and limited edition formula, these are not applicable for the Back to MAC recycling program.
Lorelei, Sea Worship, and Silver Sun
Lorelei, Sea Worship, and Silver Sun
Lorelei is a light-medium warm golden peachy beige in a metallic finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. It has a lightweight, silky texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is similar though slightly more peach than All That Glitters, and smoother and less sparkly than Honey Lust.
Sea Worship is a medium muted warm golden khaki-olive in a metallic finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. It has a lightweight, silky texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is lighter and more golden than Sumptuous Olive, and more green than Woodwinked.
Silver Sun is a light-medium seafoam green with a golden shimmer-sheen in a metallic finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. It has a lightweight, silky texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. There is nothing really similar to this in MAC's permanent eyeshadow range; it is lighter and warmer than Sweet & Sour #2 Mineralize Eyeshadow.
Legendary Lure, Fathoms Deep, and Soul Serenade
Legendary Lure, Fathoms Deep, and Soul Serenade
Legendary Lure is a dark cool-toned forest green in a metallic finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. It has a lightweight, silky texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. There is nothing really similar to this in MAC's permanent eyeshadow range; it is cooler and less green than Smutty Green Mineralize Eyeshadow, and more green-toned than Knight Divine.
Fathoms Deep is a dark muted cool-toned purple in a metallic finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. It has a lightweight, silky texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. There is nothing really similar to this in MAC's permanent eyeshadow range; it is darker and cooler than Nocturnelle, and cooler and more muted than Pinkluxe #5.
Soul Serenade is a dark cool-toned taupe in a metallic finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. It has a lightweight, silky texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. There is nothing really similar to this in MAC's permanent eyeshadow range; it is darker and less grey than Satin Taupe, and much warmer than Knight Divine.
This is probably MAC's best iteration of their Extra Dimension Eyeshadow formulation to date. I've always been impressed with this formula, but they seem to be even more pigmented and softer this time around, making every single one of these exceptional in texture and execution. It might actually be my favourite eyeshadow formulation by MAC, ever. It's very similar to their Veluxe Pearl finish eyeshadows in the more frosted, metallic finish and fantastic pigmentation and colour pay-off, except silkier and more lightweight (because these are a "liquid-powder" hybrid) rather than dense and buttery. If this collection is any indication, MAC is trying to get away from the bright lip trend this summer, and focusing more on clean, illuminated skin and and sultry, more dramatic eye looks. And these are the perfect eyeshadows to create a fresh take on the smoky eye — not just for summer, but all year round.
the packaging keeps tripping me out lol. i keep thinking there's actual water drops on the items but nope...just graphics.

A Beautiful Zen
Lol, yep. I actually think the packaging is the real star here, despite how gorgeous the products are!
DeleteI just wonder what happens if you actually get them wet... you'd never realize...
I picked up three of these: Soul Serenade, Legendary Lure and Sea Worship. So far I'm having some issues with blending this as it transfers to my crease. Need to play around with a base and see. I haven't had this issue with the other formulas so it's kind of interesting. It could also be my eye cream or the slightly warmer than usual weather. What do you suggest?
ReplyDeleteHuh, I haven't heard anyone having blending issues with these. I actually think the trick with these ones is NOT to use an emollient base. I've been using them with NARS eye primer and they've been great!
DeleteIt could very well be your eye cream. Don't think the weather should affect them, really.
Hmm ok :) Will try without the emollient base and see how it works. Thanks!
DeleteLet me know how it works out for you! :)
DeleteUGH I want Lorelei and Sea Worship, but I don't have the fortitude to track these down before they sell out everywhere. I lOVE colors like Lorelei, though.
ReplyDeleteLorelei is the type of shade I use EVERYDAY. Makes sense, though -- it's basically a dupe for All That Glitters. :P
DeleteThe eyeshadows flew off shelves crazy fast -- I'm talking stores being sold out within an hour of opening. So don't feel bad. :P Sumptuous Olive is very similar to Sea Worship -- a touch darker and a little less golden, but I would consider it a dupe.
I had to get Soul Serenade, even though I'm in that no eye shadows phase. SO BEAUTIFUL. I didn't expect the eye makeup to catch my eye at all! (Ha, see what I did there?)
ReplyDeleteLOL! I'm glad you got at least one shadow -- these suckers sold out CRAZY FAST. There's not a single shade here that I don't like. The formula's just stunning. MAC's summer collection never fails to amaze. :)
DeleteWhat's your take on the Osborne collections debuting next? I didn't really see anything eye catching but it's a different story once they're on the shelves.
DeleteThe blushes are definite must-haves for me. And the Kelly lipsticks. And the Sharon eyeshadow quad. LOL. You know I'm gonna end up with all the things. :P
DeleteI also only bought Soul Serenade - I couldn't pass up buying SOMETHING from the launch, because that packaging! It looks so much more purple on you than I though. I just did some swatches today, and it's a more warm, and more shimmery (surprisingly) version of Dark Soul pigment, seems to me. At least, the two look similar on me, but I prefer SS more I think. I was determined to buy Lorelei, but when I saw how close it was to All That Glitters, I passed (though I DO love that shade!).
ReplyDeleteOh yea, and I went to the store the day it launched around lunchtime, and they'd already sold out of Legendary Lure (my first choice) - crazy!
DeleteYeah, it was kind of ridiculous how fast these were sold out! I think some stores were sold out within 30 minutes of opening, lol. Glad you ended up getting one of the shadows, though; Soul Serenade is gorgeous! :) And yes, if there was a single skippable shade here, it would probably be Lorelei, only because it's so similar to All That Glitters.
