So, as I had mentioned previously, I sort of became addicted to shopping at Loblaws. And not for food, mind you, I mean for cosmetics. For those of you who don't live in Canada, Joe Fresh is Loblaws' in-house lifestyle brand that makes clothing, accessories, and cosmetics. They've since gained quite a bit of popularity and expanded to the US, and now have their own stores in New York and are being carried at various JC Penney locations. I had bought a few Joe Fresh lipsticks and nail polishes a couple years ago, and I remember being fairly impressed with them, so I'm not really sure why I stopped shopping there. But, I went into Loblaws again sometime last month and re-acquainted myself with their cosmetics. So, I picked up some blushes. And since I'm a blush fiend, I picked up three. Each Joe Fresh powder blush comes in clear round plastic packaging, contains 7 grams of product, and retails for $6 each.
Rose is a medium-dark brightened rose pink with subtle warm undertones in a satin finish. The texture is soft and silky, and it goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is more pink than MAC Fleur Power, lighter and less brown than MAC Desert Rose, less reddened than NARS Amour, and darker and warmer than NARS Mata Hari.
Melon is a medium warm peach with subtle pink undertones in a satin finish. The texture is soft and silky, and it goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is more pink than MAC Melba, darker and more pink than MAC Peaches, lighter than TheBalm Frat Boy, and lighter and less bright than Tarte Blissful.
Pink is a light-medium cool-toned baby pink with a soft sheen in a satin finish. The texture is soft and silky, and it goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is similar to MAC Well Dressed, lighter and cooler than MAC Dame, lighter and cooler than Tarte Dollface, and darker than Illamasqua Katie.
Well, consider me impressed. This is the first batch of Joe Fresh blushes I've ever used, and the texture of all three were really soft and finely-milled with great colour pay-off. Honestly, they're luxury brand quality at drugstore prices. (I also want to point out that Joe Fresh has some of the most simple, sleek, streamlined packaging of any "drugstore" brand I've ever seen, making it look more luxury, too.) These three shades in particular provide great dupes for many popular shades by much more expensive brands out there. I'm not going to stop buying blushes by those luxury, more expensive brands, but these are truly amazing options from a lower end brand.
If you ever need a Loblaws shopping partner, I volunteer! :)Those colours are so preeeetty.
ReplyDeleteHaha, okay, next time, we go on a Loblaws date. Maybe we can do a Loblaws + baking sesh when I get back from NYC. :)
DeleteI'm dead now. DEAD. I always thought that these would be crap, so I never bothered to check them out. If I die under a pile of blush and isn't found for three days, it's all your fault!
ReplyDeleteLMAO!
DeleteI apologize, but do take the blame if you do indeed die from blush overdose. :)
So. Which ones are you gonna get?
I like Melon but might have to get Rose since I don't have shades like that. But I'll have to see what the rest of the Joe selection looks like!
DeleteI think Melon's actually my favourite of the three just because I'm a sucker for peach shades this time of year, but Rose would be my second favourite! The rest of the selection is kind of boring, mostly neutrals (I went to Loblaws yesterday to check 'em out, lol). :P
DeleteI concur, for once the packaging doesn't deter me in the least - a lot of times I'm more snobby about that than anything, and I'd go for a cheaper buy if it looked nice! I love the Joe Fresh packaging, and good to hear that the powder blushes are worth a look - I have two of the cream ones and I quite like them :)
ReplyDeleteHaha, packaging plays such an important role, especially in cosmetics. Like, why should a product that is meant to make you prettier be in ugly packaging, you know? I mean, isn't that why companies hire a marketing team? I'M SO SUPERFICIAL.
DeleteHave you seen any of Drew Barrymore's new cosmetics line, Flower? It's exclusive to Wal-Mart, but I haven't seen it in real life yet. The packaging and quality of her products are supposed to be on par with luxury brands but they have drugstore prices, so I'm super curious.
