Butter London 3 Free Nail Lacquer in Fairy Cake

For New Year's, I obviously wanted sparkly nails, but I also wanted it to represent the time of year without being too Christmassy. And I also didn't want to create a complicated look with different polishes because I was much too lazy and much too busy. So, in came Butter London's Fairy Cake, which also gave me the opportunity to use another one of the shades I bought from their Holiday collection.

Fairy Cake is a clear light grey base with silver shimmer and silver and prismatic micro-glitter. It has a fluid consistency, without being too thick or runny. It goes on smoothly and evenly, without any pulling, bubbling, or streaking. Because of both the finer shimmer and larger micro-glitter particles, it will go opaque in three medium coats. It is similar though slightly more champagne-looking compared to Models Own's Juicy Jules. This isn't the most unique shade from Butter London's Holiday collection, but it is by far the most flattering and the most sparkly of the set. And it reminds me of snow and champagne bubbles. What more could I ask for in a New Year's polish?

  1. Ooo holographic! I like this one- it's glitzy and adds a nice clean sparkle. Plus, the word CAKE is in it's name and..you can't go wrong. lol

    Happy New Year! xx

    1. Haha, I think the name is what originally got me sucked in. :P But it is super-pretty, for sure. Sometimes I just want it to look like I have diamonds embedded in my nails, you know?

Happy New Year to you and your family and Richard! :)

    1. Glad you like it! It's not terribly unique, but I can see it being a timeless shade. :)

  3. This is such a perfect NYE shade! I hemmed and hawed over this polish for the past month and in the end didn't buy it because glitters, as beautiful as they are, annoy me to remove. But every so often there is one or two that are worth the trouble, and this may be one of them!

    1. Glitters can be really annoying to remove, it's true... But I use Shiseido cotton pads (they hold the most product) soaked in 100% acetone polish remover and then wrap my nails with them. It's terrible for the nails, but it works like a charm! This shade is really stunning, especially in real life when you see the light reflect off all the particles. Like a mound of diamonds! :D Totally worth the effort!!!

  4. I'm usually not a big fan of these shades but there's something about this that's really nice! Good choice, Denise!

    1. Haha, thanks, Liz. You know my affinity for glitter. :)

When I was ordering the Butter London holiday collection, this one was the one I wanted most even though a lot of the blogs I was reading from was like, "It's not the most unique and not really a must-have." But it looked the prettiest by far so I had to have it. :P
