MAC Glamour Daze: Nail Lacquers

Thursday, November 1, 2012

Last Thursday, MAC released a new collection called Glamour Daze, which is this year's holiday colour collection. This launch features a total of 35 products — 24 of which are new and limited edition, nine of which are re-promotes, and two of which are permanent. Glamour Daze sees the release of four shades of Nail Lacquer, two of which are new and limited edition, one of which is a re-promote, and one of which is permanent (and will not be reviewed here). These are packaged in limited edition clear bottles with the MAC logo in white, and come in glossy black cardstock boxes. Each Nail Lacquer comes with 10 ml of product, and retails for $21.

Endless Night, Everything That Glitters, and In the Limelight

Endless Night is a light-medium cool-toned beige with soft iridescent pink micro-shimmer in a Cream finish. It is a re-promoted shade from last year's Daphne Guinness collection, and is limited edition. It has a fluid consistency, but is on the thinner side. It goes on smoothly and evenly, without any pulling, bubbling, or streaking. It has medium pigmentation, and will go opaque in two medium-thick coats. It is lighter and less grey than Quiet Time, is darker and more grey than Essie's Topless & Barefoot, and is more pinked than Essie's Sand Tropez.
Everything That Glitters is a black base with blue, magenta, and silver micro-glitter in a Pearl finish. It is a new and limited edition shade. It has a fluid consistency, without being too thick or runny. It goes on smoothly and evenly, without any pulling, bubbling, or streaking. It has medium-high pigmentation, and will go opaque in two medium-thick coats. It is similar to Butter London's The Black Knight.
In the Limelight is a light cool-toned mint green in a Cream finish. It is a new and limited edition shade. It is a new and limited edition shade. It has a fluid consistency, but is on the thicker side. It goes on smoothly and evenly, without any pulling, bubbling, or streaking. It has high pigmentation, and will go opaque in two medium coats. It is similar to Mischievous Mint, and is very slightly cooler than Essie's Mint Candy Apple.

I don't think any of these are must-haves, but Everything That Glitters has the most 'wow' factor of the bunch. It's extremely similar to The Black Knight by Butter London, but I do find that the black base of MAC's version is more pigmented (so only two coats are needed rather than three), and the shimmer is a bit more obvious. If you don't have The Black Knight, you might want to look into this one. Endless Night is actually a really nice neutral nude shade and even though I don't wear nude nail polish often, I appreciate the quiet beauty of the subtle iridescent shimmer. In the Limelight has about a million dupes out there now since mint green became trendy, so I would save my money on this one because I'm sure you can find a shade exactly like it that is significantly cheaper.

  1. There are nice but they all look really familiar, ya know? I'm torn on The Black Knight but good to know this option is available (for now).

    1. Yeah, totally. These shades have definitely been done before. It's the reason why I'm drawn to A-England, Butter London, and Deborah Lippmann -- they still create really awesome, unique shades that capture my interest.

Either way, The Black Knight is cheaper, so if you can find it, grab that one...

  2. I totally have nail envy.

And why do I feel like Limelight is MAC's 200th pastel shade this year?!

    1. Lol! MAC hasn't released TOO many pastel shades this year... Like, there were a couple in the Spring and I know most of the Beth Ditto nail polishes were pastel... But In the Limelight definitely seems like a shade that MAC has released before. It's almost an exact dupe of Mischievious Mint, which came out last year... I think, if anything, MAC has released a ton of red shades this year!
