MAC Vera: Plushglasses

MAC released a new collection featuring the designs of Vera Neumann last Thursday, called MAC Vera. This collection features 19 products, 10 of which are new and limited edition, 8 of which are re-promotes (7 of which are going to be made permanent), and one of which is permanent. MAC Vera features five shades of Plushglass, three new and limited edition, one re-promote, and one permanent (which will not be reviewed here). Plushglass is a non-sticky lip gloss formula that is meant to provide "sheer lip colour with a pearlized high-shine gloss finish" while giving lips a "cool-warm, vanilla buzz." It "moisturizes, soothes, and visibly plumps the lips to make them look luxuriously healthy and well-conditioned." They have a rather strong vanilla scent and taste. Each Plushglass comes in a clear tube with a black rubberized cap and a doe-foot applicator, contains 4.2 ml of product, and retails for $22.50.

Fashion Fanatic, Confetti, On A Holiday, and Butterfly Dream

Fashion Fanatic is a warm milky pink with subtle white micro-shimmer. It is a re-promoted shade from last year's Quite Cute collection, and is limited edition. It goes on smoothly and evenly, and has low pigmentation and sheer colour pay-off. It is more pink and less shimmery than Wildly Lush, and more sheer than Boy Bait Cremesheen Glass.

Confetti is a warm peach with subtle white micro-shimmer. It is a new and limited edition shade. It goes on smoothly and evenly, and has low pigmentation and sheer colour pay-off. It is more sheer and more orange than Big Baby, and much more sheer than Richer, Lusher Cremesheen Glass.

On A Holiday is a grapefruit pink with fuchsia and blue micro-shimmer. It is a new and limited edition shade. It goes on smoothly and evenly, and has low pigmentation and sheer colour pay-off. It is more sheer and less orange than Big Kiss, and much more sheer and more pink than Double Dare Cremesheen Glass.

Butterfly Dream is a pink-lilac with fuchsia and blue micro-shimmer. It is a new and limited edition shade. It goes on smoothly and evenly, and has low pigmentation and sheer colour pay-off. It is more purple and less shimmery than Bountiful.

I found that, with the exception of Fashion Fanatic, these have a more jelly-like finish like Tendertone Lip Balms. None of these really add much colour to the lips on their own, but they do layer on top of lipsticks and lip liners quite well by enhancing the colour and making them look more dimensional. I've always been pretty indifferent to the Plushglass formula, and these don't really sway me either way. I don't use a lot of plumping glosses, so I'm not sure how these compare to some other popular brands (e.g. DuWop Lip Venom). They do tingle on the lips, and many people have had negative reactions to this formula (e.g. burning or stinging), though I don't personally react to them. They don't have a massive plumping effect in my experience, though my lips look a little fuller and "juicier." They do have quite a strong scent, though, so those who are sensitive to fragrance may not like these. None of these are must-haves to me, but if you like Plushglass or other plumping glosses, you might want to take a look at them.
