MAC released their second holiday collection yesterday, called Dazzlesphere!, which features lip gloss and pigment stack sets in sphere-shaped "ornaments." Each pigment set features four new and limited edition shades of Crushed Metallic Pigment. All shades of Crushed Metallic Pigment have, as the name implies, a strong metallic finish. Each ornament of Crushed Metallic Pigment comes with two individual stacks, each stack containing two shades, totalling four shades. It is designed so that the lids can be interchangeable to stack each shade on top of each other. Each container houses 3 grams of pigment, with a total net weight of 12 grams per ornament. Each ornament retails for $38.50.
Clockwise from top: Pearl, Rose Light, Roasted Chestnut, and Spicy Smoke
Pearl, Rose Light, Spicy Smoke, and Roasted Chestnut
Pearl is a pale metallic warm creamy white. It has excellent pigmentation but there is a bit of grittiness to it and, as a result, has some fall out. It's like a metallic version of Vanilla.Rose Light is a medium metallic peachy rose pink. It has excellent pigmentation but there is a bit of grittiness to it and, as a result, has some fall out. It is peachier than Da Bling, but more pink than Expensive Pink.Spicy Smoke is a medium-dark metallic orange-based red. It has excellent pigmentation but there is a bit of grittiness to it and, as a result, has some fall out. It is similar to Coppering.Roasted Chestnut is a dark metallic chocolate brown with bronze shimmer. It has excellent pigmentation but there is a bit of grittiness to it and, as a result, has some fall out. It is less red than Swiss Chocolate, and much darker than Bronze.
Crushed Metallic Pigments look absolutely stunning – in the jars and in execution. They really stay true to their product name, and really do look like crushed metal nuggets. All of them have a chunkier texture to them, but they can be easily "crushed" and smoothed out. There were no major duds here; all four of these shades have fantastic pigmentation. Crushed Metallic Pigments would work best using other textures, however, since they are super metallic and it might be overkill to use all shades in a stack together. I do recommend using these on top of a slightly more emollient base, just so they have adhere better to the eye area. I use MAC's Vibrancy Eye Primer, but Paint Pot or Paint would work well. I usually don't like loose eyeshadows because I find them messier with more fall out, but as someone who loves metallic eyeshadows, I find these totally worth working with. For those who like more matte shades, you can skip these.
There's a second launch??? My god, I'm completely overwhelmed.
ReplyDeleteBut still, I'm curious, Denise: what's the next collection after this? lol
Miss Piggy for MAC is released on November 14 (though there's only a total of three products being launched, and only one of them is new and limited), Gareth Pugh for MAC is released on November 23 (at MAC Stores only), Metal-X is being released on Boxing Day, and so is Daphne Guinness for MAC. :)
ReplyDeleteOkay, thanks for the info/heads up. I will firmly keep my eyes away from MAC until January. (Hopefully!)
ReplyDelete@Liz: I'm really curious about the Daphne Guiness range. There are some Cremesheen glasses there that I really love. They do wonders for me on my dry-lips-days.
ReplyDeleteI'm really excited for the Daphne Guinness collection as well (Cremesheen Glass is my favourite!), and the nail polishes from the Gareth Pugh collection! :)
