MAC Mariah Carey: My Mimi Extra Dimension Skinfinish

Tuesday, December 13, 2016

This Thursday, MAC will be launching their collaboration collection with Mariah Carey in stores (it launched online last Thursday and promptly sold out). It includes a total of 23 products, of which 20 are new and limited edition, two are re-promotes, and one is permanent and in special edition packaging. The Mariah Carey collection sees the launch of one new and limited edition shade of Extra Dimension Skinfinish, which is described as "a liquid-powder highlighter, with prismatic reflections, designed to sculpt and highlight your face, for a luminous, well-defined finish. The creamy powder formula lasts up to ten hours." The powder itself is embossed with the silhouette of Mariah Carey's face, and is housed in "luxurious packaging in silver glitter with champagne gold accents and Mariah's signature." Each Extra Dimension Skinfinish contains 10 grams of product, and retails for $52.50.

My Mimi

My Mimi

My Mimi is a medium-dark warm bronzed gold in a luminous pearlized finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. It has a lightweight, silky texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is slightly darker and more bronze than Gold Deposit Mineralize Skinfinish.

Only Mariah Carey would have her face embossed on to a powder, and it's one of the cutest things I've ever seen. I'm glad that MAC decided to use the Extra Dimension Skinfinish formula rather than Mineralize Skinfinish, because it would have been an almost exact dupe of Gold Deposit. As it is, My Mimi is extremely similar in colour to Gold Deposit, but it has that ultra-lightweight silky texture, incredible pigmentation, and smooth pearlized finish of an Extra Dimension Skinfinish. This colour will work beautifully as a highlighter or all-over glow on dark to deep-dark skintones, and as a blush/blush topper or illuminating bronzer on medium to medium-deep skintones. I don't want to say that those who have fair to light complexions can't use this, but I would use a light hand and a really fluffy brush because it is very yellow and can make lighter skintones look sallow. What's great about this shade, though, is that you can really use it all year round; it would be just as appropriate now for the holidays as it would be in the middle of summer. If you already have Gold Deposit and you're looking at this product strictly for the colour, I would say skip it. But for the Mariah fans, highlighter junkies, and MAC collectors, this is definitely a must-have.
