Chelsea and I went to check out Gyugyuya, a popular Japanese curry house that recently opened a full location in Scarborough (they have one at Pacific Mall, but it's apart of a food court so it's takeout only). I opted to get the Ton Katsu Curry, because it seems to be one of their signature dishes. And man, it might be one of the best tonkatsu I've had in the city. The meat here is tender and flavourful and it has the perfect pork-to-breading ratio, with the perfect crunch in every bite. The curry, what Gyugyuya is known for, has a smokiness with a hint of nutmeg that sets it apart from other Japanese curries, which can often be too runny or too sweet. It's also not too expensive, with a good portion size that's filling but not overwhelming. Will definitely go back when the curry cravings strike. I'm totally eyeing the gyu curry for next time.
