NYC — Spring 2017: BB.Q Chicken

on
Thursday, May 25, 2017
We found ourselves in Koreatown while walking around Midtown on Sunday, and decided to look for a good place for a snack. Ronsee was craving fried chicken, and I remember watching a video on BB.Q Chicken on the Insider Food's Instagram that looked amazing, so we went there. (BB.Q here stands for "Best of the Best Quality," so don't go in thinking that it's, you know, barbecue.) BB.Q is a popular fried chicken franchise in Korea (they actually have 2,200 locations across 57 countries now) but we don't have one in Canada, so I was quite excited to try it.

Gang-Jeong Chicken

What sets apart this Korean fried chicken from other types is that they fry theirs in olive oil to "create a unique fresh flavour and clean aftertaste." We weren't hungry enough to have a full meal there, but after much debate (every single type of chicken there looked delightful), we decided to share a bucket of the Gang-Jeong Chicken, which is stir-fried with red peppers, garlic, and the traditional Korean Gang-Jeong sauce "for a tangy and sweet flavour." All I gotta tell you is that it was fresh, piping hot, perfectly tender, super flavourful, with a nice crisp shell that held up to the sauce really well. It's also addictive as hell because we were totally tempted to get another bucket. (But we didn't. Because we have self-control, people.) Anyway, yeah, if you're looking for some tasty fried chicken with a Korean twist, look no further.
