This week's Saturday Nine:

(Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.)

  1. In Jamaica, "jamming" means to celebrate. What's going on in your life today that's worth celebrating? It's long weekend and I have to work straight through it. So, um, being alive?

  2. The group that became famous as "The Wailers" originally called themselves "The Teenagers." What was trendy when you were a teenager (clothes, music, etc.)? I think the trends that came out when I was a teen (late '90s/early 2000s) is more cringe-worthy than any other generation's. Baggy pants, ball chain necklaces, tattoo choker necklaces, wallets on chains, band buttons, studded belts, guitar string bracelets, butterfly clips, hair streaks, Von Dutch trucker hats, popped collars, low-rise flared jeans, emo hair, Paul Frank tees, UGG boots, Tiffany heart tag necklaces and bracelets, neck ties over tank tops (thanks, Avril Lavigne), Juicy Couture tracksuits (honestly, Juicy Couture anything), navel piercings, Ed Hardy shirts, capri pants, Abercrombie & Fitch sweatshirts (thanks, LFO), fishnet stockings, frosted lip gloss (hello, MAC Prrr), designer jeans (7 For All Mankind, Rock & Republic, Citizens of Humanity, Miss Sixty, etc.), sweatpants with words on the butt...

  3. Bunny Wailer and Bob Marley were very close. In addition to being bandmates, they were friends in elementary school and later became family (Bunny's dad and Bob's mom had a daughter together). Who has known you the longest? Aside from family, it would be my friend Katherine, who has known me since 7th grade. So it's been 18 years.

  4. Does the person you named in #3, the one who's known you longest, know you best? It's weird because we only see each other maybe once every couple years but when we do talk, it's like no time has passed at all. In a way, she knows my personality the best at its core. She doesn't know the details of my daily goings-on, but she'd know how I'd react or respond to something.

  5. Bandmate Peter Tosh became an avid unicycle rider. What's your favourite form of exercise? LOL.

  6. Bob Marley was known for his signature dreadlocks. When were you last in a stylist's chair? Umm, last summer. Yeah, it's about time to get a hair cut...

  7. Marley's charisma is credited for popularizing reggae music the world over. Are you a fan? Not particularly. I mean, I can appreciate its influence over other genres of music, but I'm not personally a fan.

  8. Mr. Marley is one of the highest-earning dead celebrities, and manufacturers pay his estate to use his likeness to sell their merchandise. What dead celebrity have you seen recently on a t-shirt, mug, poster, etc.? Kurt Cobain. For some reason, kids these days love wearing Kurt Cobain shirts even though they really have no idea who he was or what Nirvana was. I'm guessing this is part of the whole grunge trend that came back last year. (Ironic, since Kurt Cobain became depressed — and later, suicidal — because he couldn't stand the pressure of being idolized and people cashing in on his fame.)

  9. Random question: Have you ever had your palm read? My dad has. But I haven't like, paid to go to a palm reader.
