MAC Future MAC: Mineralize Skinfinish in Otherearthly and Warm Rose

This Thursday, MAC will be launching a new colour collection called Future MAC: "Beauty moves at the speed of life. Future MAC will see the release of two new and limited edition shades of Mineralize Skinfinish, which MAC describes as "a luxurious, slow-baked, velvety soft, domed face powder with a radiant finish. Strategically buff on to add highlights to the high points of the face, or blend all over for a sheer luminous polish to the skin. Features our 77-Mineral Complex and vitamin E." They are packaged in black clear-lidded compacts with magnetized closure. Otherearthly contains a total of 8 grams of product, and Warm Rose contains a total of 10 grams of product; they both retail for $37.

Otherearthly combines a medium golden bronze, a light shell pink, and a pale cool silver in a unique wave pattern. When swirled together, they create a light-medium muted warm peachy beige with a soft silver shimmer-sheen in a metallic finish. This is a new and permanent shade. It has a soft, finely-milled texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is darker and warmer than Soft and Gentle, more pink than Global Glow, and lighter and more muted than Cheeky Bronze.

Warm Rose is a light neutral pinked beige in a satin finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. It has a soft, finely-milled texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is more pinked and more matte than Lightscapade, cooler than Light Mineralize Skinfinish Natural, and lighter and cooler than Light Plus Mineralize Skinfinish Natural.

Both Mineralize Skinfinishes in this launch are velvety soft and finely-milled with the same lightweight consistency and smooth application that are in line with baked powders. They are both highly pigmented and give off full colour pay-off, but are also extremely blendable and don't emphasize skin texture. Otherearthly combines three unexpected hues in a single pan, but they come together really beautifully to create a light-medium peachy beige with hints of pink (almost like a really muted rose gold) that will work on all skintones and undertones. It will impart more colour on fair complexions, but will act as an illuminating highlighter or skin finisher on all other skintones. Warm Rose, on the other hand, has a demi-matte finish that is more akin to the Mineralize Skinfinish Natural powders (meant to be used all over the face as a setting powder) than a true Mineralize Skinfinish (meant to be used for radiance and highlighting). If I'm to be really nit-picky, I'd say that Warm Rose has a very slightly more pearlized finish than a typical Mineralize Skinfinish Natural powder, but in general, it has a satin finish that can be used as a very natural, very soft highlight on light to medium skintones, or as an all over setting powder for fair to light skintones; it will, however, look chalky on medium-dark to deep-dark skintones. Ultimately, I appreciate that MAC came out with a high-shine, metallic option and a semi-matte, naturally brightening option; a lot of people like one or the other, so it's nice to see both in a single collection.
