So, I bought this palette nearly a year ago, took photos to ready it for review, and used it for months... and totally forgot to post anything about it. I didn't even realize this until I was scrolling through my memory card to delete photos. But since this palette is a permanent member of the Too Faced family, I decided to post this 'cause, you know, better late than never or whatever. The Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar is the second palette in the Chocolate Bar family, and it was first released a little over a year ago. Too Faced describes it as "a deeper, warmer version of our best-selling [Chocolate Bar] palette... that features 16 antioxidant-rich, cocoa powder-infused shadows in matte and shimmer shades of warm caramels, deep mochas, bronzy chocolate hues and a pop of sugared blueberry." It is housed in a dark chocolate brown metal case with a mirror on the inside spanning the entire lid, and the exterior box packaging is meant to mimic old-fashioned chocolate bar wrapping. As with all the Chocolate Bar eyeshadow palettes, the eyeshadows are scented like cocoa powder. Each Chocolate Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar palette contains a total of 15.5 grams of product, and retails for $59 CAD. It is available at all Sephora locations, and online at Sephora and Too Faced.

I would say that Too Faced was pretty dead-on in describing the Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar as the darker, warmer sister to their original Chocolate Bar palette, which I found to be more muted in general. Though the original Chocolate Bar would be considered a warm palette as well, the Semi-Sweet has far more orange and gold tones in it. Compared to the newly released Chocolate Bon Bons palette, which is relatively cool, this is far warmer. As usual, the eyeshadows in this palette are gorgeous — silky, smooth, pigmented, and ultra-blendable — with the exception of Pink Sugar, which is so absolutely dismal that it's completely surprising and totally out of place in this palette. It has an almost wet, gel-like texture and has a sort of slick feel to it (it's definitely not a powder), and it is so sheer that it seems almost like a glittery top coat of sorts. Except when you try to apply it to the eye, the colour just doesn't want to adhere to the lid, and instead sticks to whatever you used to apply it (whether with a brush or finger). It's not a total deal-breaker, but it is a big disappointment; I'm not really sure what Too Faced was thinking when they included it, especially given the quality of the other shadows in the palette. Anyway, what I really appreciate about Too Faced's Chocolate Bar palettes is the variety in finishes; each one has a good ratio of metallic/frosts, satins, and mattes (something that I find Urban Decay's Naked palettes, arguably their biggest competitors, lacking). This is a great one to look at if you love warm palettes and cute packaging.
