NYX Blush in Summer Peach, Peach, and Pinky

Okay, I realize I'm really late to the NYX game. There's just always other products that I get distracted with, so all the NYX things I want get pushed aside. And living so far out in the suburbs means there aren't a lot of retailers nearby that carry NYX. I don't buy drugstore makeup often, as many of you will know. I'm not being a snob about it; after having worked in a drugstore for six years, drugstore makeup just doesn't really intrigue me. I mean, I'll buy a few things here or there, and there have been products that I really like, but it's just never been at the top of my list. One brand that I never really thought of as a "drugstore brand" (even though they are now squarely in this category) is NYX. When I first saw their products (back in 2005, when the Shoppers Drug Mart I worked at started carrying a few of their eyeshadow trios on a little displayer stand), they weren't widely known, and their products don't come in that tacky packaging that a lot of drugstore makeup come in (you know, the ones with claims or how-to-use instructions); the packaging is just clean, simple, and black so you can see the colour inside. Kind of reminded me of MAC or Make Up For Ever or Inglot: a colour brand for artists. And, of course, I think they're the only "drugstore brand" that appears at IMATS. So when I saw NYX at my local Rexall, I decided to pick up a few things, including these three blushes here. Each blush comes in a glossy black plastic squared compact with a clear lid, contains a total of 5.2 grams of product, and sells for $6.99 to $10.99 depending on the retailer.

Summer Peach, Peach, and Pinky

Summer Peach, Peach, and Pinky

Summer Peach is a medium pinked coral with a subtle shimmer-sheen in a satin finish. This is a permanent shade. It has a soft, silky texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is lighter and less reddened than MAC Pinch Me, more pink than NARS Torrid, darker than Hourglass Diffused Heat, lighter and more muted than TheBalm Toile, more pink and more matte than Clinique Ginger Pop, and lighter and less reddened than Tarte Charisma.
Peach is a medium vibrant warm-toned strawberry pink in a satin-matte finish. This is a permanent shade. It has a soft, silky texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is more peach than MAC Fleur Power, darker and more pink than NARS Deep Throat, darker and more matte than Hourglass Luminous Flush, warmer and more peach than TheBalm Argyle, darker and more pink than Clinique Peach Pop, more peach than Tarte Fearless.
Pinky is a medium brightened cool-toned cotton candy pink with a subtle shimmer-sheen in a satin finish. This is a permanent shade. It has a soft, silky texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is darker than MAC Peony Petal, more matte than NARS Angelika, more muted than NARS Desire, much more blue-toned than Hourglass Radiant Magenta, lighter and more muted than TheBalm Lace, and cooler and more matte than Clinique Plum Pop.

All three of these are beautifully pigmented, finely-milled and silky soft, and apply smoothly and evenly. Easy to layer and effortless to blend out. No complaints about these whatsoever. There's a great range of shades (including a lot of dupes for way more expensive blushes), and the price is right. Seriously giving prestige blushes a run for their money.

  1. I've never tried anything NYX, mostly because I have a paraben-allergy and last I checked, they weren't paraben-free. Everyone does seem to like their blushes, though, and they are pretty!

    1. How do you know if you're allergic to parabens? I get skin reactions all the time and I never know what triggers them...

    2. I had an allergy test done, because I was getting a severe rash from my bra. So they did a patch test with 24 allergens on my back (this sucked. Big time suckage, lol) and then identified the ones that caused reactions. So now I have a nice little list, lol.

    3. LOL that really is big time suckage. But what was it about your bra that was giving you a rash? Maybe I should do something like this. The test itself sounds like torture, but I kinda wanna know why I get random rashes/hives/eczema flare ups out of nowhere... :P

I got an allergy test done when I was a kid and my results were cats and smoke. I am allergic to neither, LOL.

    4. It was strapless bras - you know how they have a lining to keep them up? (Actually, some regular bras also apparently have a lining, because I've had irritations from those, too). I'm allergic to some adhesives (though not latex) - they give me huge welts. The allergist & his interns were super curious about it because apparently this is not a common issue, lol.

The test wasn't too bad...just lots of itching afterward :P

    5. That's crazy, what fabric in the bra are you allergic to? Like, I know I can't wear certain wools because they make me itch, but never heard of allergy to bra linings... SCARY.

I am allergic to some bandages... it's not latex, though, 'cause I can wear latex gloves and not have an issue. Maybe I should take this allergy test...

  2. I loved Desert Rose that Larie sent me a long time ago. NYX in general is quite good, but of course, now that they're widely available now thanks to Target and Rexall, I take them for granted. LOL

    1. LOL. I don't live near a Target, but now that I know I live close to a Rexall, I might begin taking them for granted, too. But I feel like I need to make up for not buying any NYX before, LOL. And ftbbeauty.ca carries them for cheaper, so I might do a big order... more blushes and those butter glosses. :P

  4. Picking up on yours and Larie's comments - I had an allergy test done two years ago (on my arm, not my back, thankfully) but it was pretty general - like dust mites, dogs, cats, cockroach (no joke). I wanted it done for the same reason as you, because my eczema flares up for no reason sometimes and I'd really like to know the culprit. Unfortunately, I didn't get any real idea what the cause was from the test. Annoying! Larie's sounds much more comprehensive.

RE: these NYX blushes - I just saw a swatch of one that was a fabulous red. If I see that in store, it is coming home with me! I don't own a real red blush (well, I have a brick red from NARS and an orange red from Becca but neither are really fitting the bill) and I'm nervous it will look horrible on me, so I want to start with a cheaper version and see how it goes.

    1. I've had eczema since I was a kid but I wonder if there's a test to take to see what causes the flare-ups. I will ask my doctor next time I see her.

Oooh, which NYX red? If you can't find it in store, you might be able to find it on FTBbeauty.ca. Free shipping on orders over $50, but they carry a big range of NYX products!
