MAC Rocky Horror Picture Show: Lipstick in Strange Journey, Oblivion, Frank-N-Furter, and Sin

Two weeks ago, MAC launched a new collection in collaboration with The Rocky Horror Picture Show, "the cult classic musical tribute to horror and sci-fi movies," in celebration of its 40th anniversary, "featuring an outrageous collection of hues and products specially designed to recreate the looks of your favourite characters from the film." This collection sees the launch of 21 products, six of which are new and limited edition, six of which are re-promotes, and nine of which are permanent (two are PRO products). It will be available at MAC Stores only. Rocky Horror Picture Show includes the release of four shades of lipstick. They come in special edition glossy black tubes with the Rocky Horror Picture Show logo, and matching secondary cardstock packaging (the inside of which features a black and white graphic collage of the movie's characters). Each lipstick contains a total of 3 grams of product, and retails for $21. Due to the special edition packaging, these are not applicable for the Back to MAC recycling program.

Strange Journey, Oblivion, Frank-N-Furter, and Sin

Strange Journey, Oblivion, Frank-N-Furter, and Sin

Strange Journey is a medium vibrant warm orange-red in a Matte finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. It has a soft and creamy texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It is redder and more muted than Lady Danger, darker and more red than So Chaud, and brighter than Chili.
Oblivion is a medium vibrant slightly cool-toned cherry red in an Amplified finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. It has a soft and creamy texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It is warmer and less pink than MAC Red, slightly lighter and warmer than Ruby Woo, and similar to Everyday Diva Mineralize Rich Lipstick.
Frank-N-Furter is a medium-dark cool-toned crimson in a Matte finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. It has a soft and creamy texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It is cooler than Viva Glam I, darker and more muted than Russian Red, and lighter and brighter than Diva.
Sin is a dark cool-toned burgundy wine red in a Matte finish. This is a permanent shade. It has a soft and creamy texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It is darker and cooler than Diva, more red than Media, and darker and warmer than Dark Side.

Well, you can't have a Rocky Horror collection and not have red lipstick, am I right? I mean, those red lips are iconic. It's in all the movie posters and merchandise, and it's actually the first thing you see in the film. So we really couldn't expect anything else for lip shades in this collection. But the four reds in this launch are very different from each other, and actually encompass all the red lip shades we see in the film (from Janet to Columbia to Magenta to Dr. Frank-N-Furter). From bright to dark, warm to cool, there's a red for everyone. What they all have in common? They're all bold and they all make a statement. Which was the point, I'm sure.

  1. i agree, a rocky horror collection w/o red would not be a rocky horror collection at all.

frank-n-furter would be the red i'd go for in the collection i think. super bold and /just/ dark enough

  2. How horrible is it that I am not sure if I have Sin in my collection or not? I am going to go look to see if I do and if I don't, I think I need it. Perfect dark red.

    1. LMAO. Sin was a PRO shade that made its way to all locations a couple months ago, so unless you bought it recently (or online or at the PRO Store), then you probably don't have it... But I agree, if you don't have it, you need it!

  3. A red for everyone! Is this still around? Because damn, Frank-N-Furter is GORGEOUS. I didn't pay this collection any mind, but I like that one!

    1. It's sold out online, but I think some locations might still have it. It is MAC Store only, though, so I would call ahead and see if your local store still has it. I think, like the movie, this collection didn't get much attention until after the launch because I remember seeing all four lipsticks still available at a couple different stores until maybe a few days ago (and MAC LE lipsticks are notorious for selling out on like, the DAY of launch). :P

  4. Gah, they all look amazing. I'll have to dig through my stash and move on to deep reds after I'm through with plums.

    1. Yes, deep red! It's my favourite kind of red, and deeper reds flatter everybody (like MAC Diva or Sin -- never seen them look bad on anyone). Although I think I am on red overload right now. :P
