MAC The Simpsons: That Trillion Dollar Look Eyeshadow Quad

This past Thursday, MAC launched their collaboration collection with The Simpsons. The collection is largely inspired by the main female character and matriarch of the show, Marge Simpson, but was created as a whole in honour of the 25th anniversary of the animated sitcom. This collection will see the launch of 10 products, nine of which are new and limited edition (of which one is an online exclusive), and one of which is permanent. The Simpsons collection will see the release of two new and limited edition eyeshadow palettes, each containing four shades. Each eyeshadow quad comes in a rectangular black mirrored compact with a design featuring Marge Simpson's head and The Simpsons logo on the lid. Each eyeshadow pan is imprinted with the same design of Marge Simpson's head. The secondary cardstock packaging features a collage of characters from The Simpsons in primary yellow, with Marge Simpson's hair coloured in blue and The Simpsons logo in red. Each eyeshadow quad contains a total of 4 grams of product, and retails for $53.

Lisa's Spikes, Apple Squishee, 2 Dozen and One Greyhounds, and Chalkboard Dreams

Lisa's Spikes, Apple Squishee, 2 Dozen and One Greyhounds, and Chalkboard Dreams

Lisa's Spikes is a light vibrant chartreuse-yellow with a sheen in a Frost finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. It has a soft, silky texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is more yellow than Bitter, more yellow and more muted than Sour Lemon, and lighter and more green than Canary Yellow.
Apple Squishee is a medium brightened cool-toned kelly green with a sheen in a Frost finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. It has a soft, silky texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is much lighter than Kelly, much more blue-toned than Lime, and more blue-toned and less shimmery than Swimming.
2 Dozen and One Greyhounds is a light dirty gilded olive in a Veluxe Pearl finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. It has a soft, silky texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is warmer and more golden than Vex, lighter and more green than Smokeluxe #3, and more green-toned than Sweet Satisfaction.
Chalkboard Dreams is a dark blackened teal with teal sparkle in a Velvet finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. It has a slightly drier, more powdery texture, but goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is more teal than Black Tied, more sparkly and more teal than Nehru, and darker and more sparkly than Plumage.

As with the blushes, I've read mixed reviews on this quad, but when I finally swatched these for myself, I was pleasantly surprised and glad to see that all four shades had soft, finely-milled textures that applied smoothly and evenly, and have great pigmentation (again, there could be deviation between the versions of these sent to people for reviews and the versions of these made for consumers). This is definitely one of the more interesting, unexpected palettes that we've seen from MAC recently which will make it worth collecting for many, but because it has brighter shades, it's not going to appeal to everybody. That having been said, it has a good mix of shades (light, bright, and dark) so you can create a variety of looks, and those who have a fondness for green-toned shadows will love this. Also, how fun are the names of these shades?

  1. Does the teal in the darkest shade come out when applied? I quite like the look of these, but I guess I've got yellows and greens...and tbh I don't love The Simpsons like everyone else seems to! Lol!

    1. The teal does come out but it also depends on what you mix it with! It's definitely more of a blackened teal so it'll look like a navy-teal in some angles and black in others.

I'm not a HUGE Simpsons fan, but I grew up watching it so I've always had a soft spot for it. :)

  2. It's definitely a great mix of shades, I'll give it that. Just not MY kind of shades...I'm not really sure what my kind IS, exactly, since I don't seem to deviate much with shadows lately (snooze), but brights aren't it. I would have LOVED this 10 years ago though!

    1. Lol, we all go through phases. I've been loving experimenting with eyeshadows lately. In the summer, I find that I'm more about golds and bronzes and glowy skin and bright lips. Once fall collections start rolling out, I'm like, BRING ON THE DRAMA. Lol!
