MAC The Simpsons: Marge's Extra Ingredients Eyeshadow Quad

This past Thursday, MAC launched their collaboration collection with The Simpsons. The collection is largely inspired by the main female character and matriarch of the show, Marge Simpson, but was created as a whole in honour of the 25th anniversary of the animated sitcom. This collection will see the launch of 10 products, nine of which are new and limited edition (of which one is an online exclusive), and one of which is permanent. The Simpsons collection will see the release of two new and limited edition eyeshadow palettes, each containing four shades. Each eyeshadow quad comes in a rectangular black mirrored compact with a design featuring Marge Simpson's head and The Simpsons logo on the lid. Each eyeshadow pan is imprinted with the same design of Marge Simpson's head. The secondary cardstock packaging features a collage of characters from The Simpsons in primary yellow, with Marge Simpson's hair coloured in blue and The Simpsons logo in red. Each eyeshadow quad contains a total of 4 grams of product, and retails for $53.

Harpooned Heart, Sexy PB & J, Beehive Blue, and Vivacious Vacuum Cleaner Bag

Harpooned Heart, Sexy PB & J, Beehive Blue, and Vivacious Vacuum Cleaner Bag

Harpooned Heart is a pale cool-toned baby pink with silver sparkle and a metallic sheen in a Lustre finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. It has a soft, silky texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is similar though more sparkly than Pink Freeze, brighter and less cool-toned than Seedy Pearl, and more pink than Phloof!.
Sexy PB & J is a medium brightened cool-toned violet with a pearly sheen in a Veluxe Pearl finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. It has a soft, silky texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is less blue-toned than Parfait Amour, more blue-toned and more metallic than Creme de Violet, and lighter and more blue-toned than Vibrant Grape.
Beehive Blue is a medium vibrant cerulean blue in a Veluxe Pearl finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. It has a soft, silky texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is more muted and less teal than Electric Eel, slightly darker than Freshwater, and darker and much more muted than Hi-Def Cyan Pigment.
Vivacious Vacuum Cleaner Bag is a dark purple-navy in a Frost finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. It has a slightly drier, more powdery texture, but goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is more metallic than Contrast, darker and more purple than Deep Truth, and more purple than Thru the Night.

As with the blushes, I've read mixed reviews on this quad, but when I finally swatched these for myself, I was pleasantly surprised and glad to see that all four shades had soft, finely-milled textures that applied smoothly and evenly, and have great pigmentation (again, there could be deviation between the versions of these sent to people for reviews and the versions of these made for consumers). This is definitely one of the more interesting, unexpected palettes that we've seen from MAC recently which will make it worth collecting for many, but because it has brighter shades, it's not going to appeal to everybody. Remember that these products were created in honour of The Simpsons and so the shades will reflect the fun nature of the show rather than seasonal trends. That having been said, it has a good mix of shades (light, bright, and dark) so you can create a variety of looks from more purple to more blue, and those who like brighter, more electric eye looks will definitely want to take a look at this one.

  1. It's too bad this collection didn't come out in the summer -- these palettes would have been sold out ASAP for sure. I like the playfulness of these shades!

    1. Okay, so I've worn this palette a few times now (I posted a pic on Instagram) and I actually think this one's really fun for fall! I mean, I don't think that was necessarily their intent (this collection's not season- or trend-based, after all) but I can see myself rocking this more in the fall than the summer because I'm more inclined to play with eyeshadow in the fall. :) I actually love this palette more than I thought I would, lol.

  2. Heeeeey. I'm not usually drawn to these colors but that means I don't actually have any like this! Haha.

  3. The palettes are quite cute. I saw them in the US recently but didn't take the plunge as I knew I wouldn't wear these colours all the time. I invested in a Tom Ford quad instead :) That said, I really wanted the other blush, the one that was online only. It looked like it would have worked better for my skintone, but I couldn't order it online as I didn't think it would reach the hotel in time before we left the US.

    1. I agree with the blush -- the coral one would look very nice with your skintone whereas the pink one would've looked quite ashy.

And yeah, these palettes are more for fun rather than for everyday use. I think you made a good call with the TF quad. :) Which one did you get?!
