Sunday Video Love: West Coast

I finally got around to downloading Lana Del Rey's Ultraviolence last week. I'm still listening through the album and, as with Born to Die and Paradise, her music usually takes some time to grow on me. I'm not sure how I feel about Ultraviolence as a whole yet — it's dreamy and ethereal and somewhat melancholic as we come to expect from her, with her breathy, sultry, bluesy voice that seems to transcend time — but it's quite slow and many of the songs seem to meld into one another so that nothing really stands out. But the one exception is this song, which I fell in love with the moment I heard it. It's different from her usual sound, kinda indie/surf-rock-meets-blues, and it's single-handedly made this record worth downloading.

  1. Aggggghhh so I hate Lana Del Rey, LOL. There is one song that I don't mind, but otherwise her songs make me want to close all the blinds and just let erosion get to me :P

AND THIS SONG. Well. I dance. And when I could still take classes because I didn't live in the middle of nowhere, everyone wanted to dance to this song and it drove me nuts, LOL.

Upon listening to it again, I can't say that I have changed my mind.

ALSO ALSO I LOVE Minus the Bear - Knights (P.O.S. Remix). --->

    1. Lol, I didn't mean to sound so combative. I think she's a love/hate artist? No one seems to have ambivalent feelings toward her.

    2. Also there is a "Sorry, I didn't mean to sound so combative," attached to that :P

    3. LOL! I agree that she's a love/hate artist. I do think that her music in general is a little too... gloom-and-doom to listen to everyday but I like it as mellow night-time music or when I need something more calm.

Maybe because I hadn't listened to this song until I saw the video a couple weeks ago, I haven't gotten sick of it yet? I don't listen to radio or watch MTV/Muchmusic, so I guess it's still fresh to me and I don't associate it with anything yet. I'm not sure why anyone would want to dance to this song, though, LOL. Not exactly my first choice for that purpose. :P

Weirdly enough, though, I dance to Knights (P.O.S. Remix). :D Haha, love Minus the Bear so much.
