Pick-Ups & Deliveries: April 2014 — Beauty Haul

on
Saturday, May 3, 2014
You think that Sephora haul was all the damage I did last month? Think again. I am a true cosmetics addict, people, and I take my hoarding seriously. I spent an exorbitant sum of money on beauty products in April. So exorbitant, in fact, that it requires the word "exorbitant" because "ridiculous" doesn't really cover it. After my Sephora haul, I picked up even more things:

Lancôme Crème Radiance Clarifying Cream-to-Foam Cleanser (200 ml x 2)

Lancôme Artliner Precision Point Eyeliner in Noir

Lancôme Gift with Purchase: Blush Subtil in Sheer Amourôse, Maquicompet Concealer in Corrector, Color Design Lipstick in Wannabe, Hypnôse Drama Mascara in Excessive Black, DreamTone Dark Spot Corrector in 2, Génifique Concentrate (x 2), Génifique Eye Concentrate, Bi-Facil Eye Make-up Remover, Absolue Premium Cream

Lancôme Gift with Purchase: Nutrix Royal Body Intense Restoring Lipid-Enriched Lotion

It was Lancôme bonus time at The Bay, and I don't normally care about such things, but then I saw that they had the jumbo size of my favourite make-up removing cleanser (it's a limited edition size so each retailer will only have it for a certain amount of time). Crème Radiance is usually $35 for a 125 ml tube, which is why I stopped buying it; it just got too expensive to have to replace every two months. But the jumbo size (200 ml) is $36.50, so I can't resist getting it when retailers have that size in stock. Which is why I ended up getting two. And then I figured I would get a new Artliner (my favourite liquid eyeliner of all time) to replace my old one because it's getting janky (I put the applicator in a L'Oréal Lineur Intense tube to "prolong" the use of it, but the original "ink" it came with is long gone). So I got the regular gift with purchase and the deluxe gift, too, because I spent over $90, and I also got $20 off my purchase because I had a cosmetics coupon from The Bay. And because my friend works at the Lancôme counter I go to, she gave me a bunch of extra goodies, too. As I said, I don't care for bonuses, but the lipstick is actually one of my favourite shades from Lancôme (it's a bright fuchsia pink in a cream finish) and those Génifique deluxe samples will come in handy when I travel.

Chanel Mousse Exfoliante Pureté Exfoliating Cleansing Foam Purity + Anti-Pollution

I also stopped by the Chanel counter to pick up a new tube of Mousse Exfoliante Pureté (my favourite cleanser of all time) because I found myself at a Bay location that actually has a Chanel counter (I don't live near any Chanel counters, so I haven't actually had the opportunity to get Chanel cosmetics in a while). I've used many, many cleansers and this one is still the best for deep-cleansing for me. The tiniest amount creates a huge amount of creamy foam (one tube will last about nine months for me, which is unheard of for all the other cleansers I've tried). My skin actually feels cleaner and smoother (there are micro-beads in it for very gentle exfoliation) and it smells amazing. It's really expensive for a cleanser at $46 for 150 ml, but it's well worth the price, in my opinion.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick in 575 Wonderland, 373 Rieuse, and 338 Mirage

Dior Gift: Diorshow Mascara, Dior Addict Extreme Lipstick in 536 Lucky, Lip Maximizer Collagen Activ Lip Plumper in 001, Capture Totale Dream Skin Serum, Capture Totale One Essential Serum, and Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet Miniature Eau de Toilette

Then I went to visit my friend at the Dior counter she works at because she wanted to show me all the Summer 2014 stuff they had just received. A lot of the products are pretty, but I deemed none of them worth splurging on for myself (the blue nail polish did entice me, but it only comes in a manicure set and at $30, I didn't think it was worth it because I wouldn't use the other components). But then she asked if I had seen the new Dior Addict Fluid Stick, which was just evil of her because she knows my weakness for lip products. If you haven't tried them yet, they are fabulous. And there's not another formula I can think of that's really like this one. It's like a liquid lipstick and a gloss, but it's incredibly lightweight with amazing colour pay-off and a creamy texture and isn't sticky at all. Kind of like YSL's Glossy Stains, but not staining. I wanted about ten of them, but ended up deciding on these three. She ended up giving me a $20 off coupon as well because I was spending over $100, and then gave me this awesome gift as well (Dior doesn't actually do GWP, but they do get some gifts that they give out to special customers and she always hooks me up).

MAC Blush Pro Palette with Springsheen, Fleur Power, Pinch O' Peach, Margin, Style, and Peachykeen

MAC Eyeshadow Pro Palette Refill Pans: Blackberry, Haux, Jest, Motif, Quarry, Vanilla, Mulch, Bamboo, Grain, and Red Brick

I put in a big MAC order online, and along with all my Proenza Schouler goodies (reviewed here, here, and here), I also got a new pro blush palette with six pans (I have a few of these in regular singles, but I wanted to have my favourite peach shades all in one palette to make them more travel- and kit-friendly), plus another couple pro eyeshadow palettes with inserts and ten new refills of classic shades that I felt were necessary to fill in some gaps of my existing palettes. Nothing terribly exciting, but I just have to say, MAC's really upped their game with their custom palettes. They look so much sleeker now and the price decrease on the actual palettes and inserts was a really smart move on their part given the palette competition out there now.

Bath & Body Works Gentle Foaming Hand Soaps in Wild Poppies, Mandarin Citron, Mediterranean Lemon, Mango Hibiscus, Island White Pineapple, and Market Peach

I haven't bought Bath & Body Works hand soap in a long time because I ended up being allergic to their anti-bacterial formula. I went in there last week just to take a look around (I am still on a candle ban!) and asked the salesgirl if they had their hand soaps in non-anti-bacterial formulas, and she said that Bath & Body Works just changed all of their hand soap formulas so that none of them have that anti-bacterial component anymore because so many people became allergic to it. It's as if she read my mind. They were having a 10 for $33 sale on their hand soaps, so I picked up six and my friend picked up four, and we had a $10 off coupon for purchases over $30, so that trip worked out quite beautifully. Also, the new revamped packaging is a lot nicer, in my opinion.

Lush Mumkin Bubble Bar

Lush Mom Tulip Reusable Bubble Bar

Lush Brightside Bubble Bar

My friend Austin is quitting his job at Lush and so he gifted me with some of the latest bubble bars that he thought I would like, which includes the Mumkin (basically the cutest thing I have ever seen, and smells like lemon and raspberries!) and the Mom Tulip (smells like my favourite Sex Bomb bath bomb) from their Mother's Day collection, and their latest and greatest addition to their permanent bubble bar range: Brightside. I love all things citrus, so this one is right up my alley. Really, I don't take a lot of baths these days because it's getting warmer (kind of) outside, but I need to get back in the habit just to use these babies.

Steve Madden studded flats

And I know this is a beauty haul, but I figured I'd mention the few non-beauty items I picked up last month here, 'cause there isn't a lot. My friend Val works at Steve Madden and hooked me up with a new pair of these studded black flats that I'd been eyeing. I've never been one for studded shoes or smoking slipper-esque styles, but for whatever reason, I thought these were really cute. Maybe it's one of those so-ugly-it's-pretty types of shoes. In any case, they're ridiculously comfortable and I can stand in them in all day, which is what I was looking for. Plus, they ended up being ridiculously affordable, which is a huge bonus. Finally, I made an order from Aerie, 'cause they were having a 40% off everything sale and I don't live near a physical store. So I picked up some new undies, a Hannah bra in a cute aqua colour with lime green lace trim, a Blakely bra in black (I've been using Victoria's Secret bras pretty exclusively over the past couple years, but I wanted to try something new), and two pairs of Day-to-Night Silky Pants in black and a cute navy anchor print (which are ridiculously comfy and airy and have pockets!).

What did y'all haul last month? Did you get anything outside of the Sephora VIB sale?

    1. They are, Larie, they really are. You should get yourself a pair or three.

And me, too. :( I feel like if I didn't buy cosmetics for like, three months, I could have bought myself the Proenza Schouler PS1 that I've been wanting for two years. :P

  2. My god, you really did buy a lot of cleansers! lol

And seriously, I might have gone on to happily use Lancôme forever but they kept raising prices and discontinuing all my faves. I have a bit of a renewed interest in some of their skin care, but holy moly, they're all $100. Not that I need any right now, but you know. Research.

    1. I KNOW, LOL! But don't worry, cleansers are staples and I always need them. ;)

I know what you mean. It was a different story when I worked for Lancome and I would get $1000 worth of gratis every year. And then at SDM, when I would get 30% off. But now, it's just wayyyyy too expensive to buy at retail price. I'll splurge if The Bay has a coupon but that's about it. I might buy a few things at Duty Free come June, 'cause it's always significantly cheaper there.

It's a good thing I haven't entered into the anti-aging stuff yet. That's when it gets REALLY pricey.

    1. You should get your stuff when there's coupons. I know The Bay gives $10 off $50 or $15 off $75 coupons every couple months for cosmetics. But yeah, loyalty goes a long way. It doesn't hurt that I used to work with a lot of these people (I worked for Lancome at The Bay for two years) so they know me really well. And I keep going back to them, even long after I left The Bay. I used to be more inclined to hook up regular customers, too.

  4. WOW! What a huge haul. It's been a long time since I've done a counter brand purchase - all the gwp goodies!!! The mother's day lush products are so cute. I didn't actually buy cosmetics but my makeup artist buddy gave me a bag of products - MUFE cream blush, Chanel and MAC lippies and a weird Korean ombre lipstick.

    1. Haha, my hauls are getting more and more ridiculous, it's true. April was pretty record-breaking for me in terms of shopping, lol. I have to lay low in May. :P And I agree, the Spring stuff from Lush is usually their cutest. :) That Mumkin is so cute that I don't even wanna use it...

Love make-up goody bags! :D I don't get gifted make-up a lot because I'm in the industry and usually get so much of it that no one thinks to get me anything. :P Which Chanel and MAC lippies did you get?
