MAC Lipsticks: Shade Extensions (Part III)

on
Thursday, May 1, 2014

Last month, MAC added 13 shades of lipstick to their permanent range at all locations. Of the 13 shades, four were previously available at MAC Stores only (one of which will not be reviewed here), three were previously available in Asia only, and six were limited edition. Each lipstick comes in regular black packaging, contains 3 grams of product, and retails for $19. These are applicable for the Back to MAC recycling program at all locations.

Sushi Kiss, Razzledazzler, Sweet & Sour, and Tangerine Dream

Sushi Kiss, Razzledazzler, Sweet & Sour, and Tangerine Dream

Sushi Kiss is a light-medium milky orange-peach in a Satin finish. This is a re-promote from last year's All About Orange collection, and is now permanent at all locations. It has a soft and creamy texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It is lighter and more orange than Ravishing, and lighter and more orange than Style Surge Mineralize Rich Lipstick.
Razzledazzler is a light-medium warm pinked coral in a Lustre finish. This is a re-promoted shade from 2007's Raquel Welch collection, and is now permanent at all locations. The texture is soft and creamy, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has medium-high pigmentation and semi-opaque to opaque buildable colour pay-off. It is slightly lighter than Coral Bliss, and lighter and more pink than Ravishing.
Sweet & Sour is a light pinked peach in a Cremesheen finish. This is a re-promoted shade from last year's All About Orange collection. The texture is soft and creamy, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It is slightly lighter and more pigmented than Shy Girl, and slightly darker and more peach than Pure Zen.
Tangerine Dream is a light-medium brightened yellow-orange in an Lustre finish. This is a re-promoted shade from last year's All About Orange collection. The texture is soft and creamy, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has medium-high pigmentation and semi-opaque to opaque buildable colour pay-off. There is nothing really similar to this in MAC's permanent range; it is much lighter and more yellow than Saigon Summer.

Did you miss out on last year's much-hyped All About Orange collection? Well, five of the limited edition shades that were launched with that collection are back and permanent! Kind of a bummer that Tart & Trendy didn't make the cut, as I think it was the most popular of the shades from All About Orange, but I guess MAC's gotta keep some shades sacred. I am surprised at the return of Tangerine Dream, though, as the intense yellow tone makes it rather unflattering against many skintones, but it is the most unique shade of the 13 shades that came back permanently. I guess the comeback of Candy Yum-Yum and Heroine made MAC realize what a massive success limited edition shades are when made permanent. In any case, all of these shades were launched just at the right time, in my opinion; they're all on-trend for the Spring and Summer seasons!

  1. I remember wanting the orange stuff so badly when it was released! I'm actually overloaded on orange lips right now and looking to get rid of some instead. Sushi Kiss will have to wait. :)

    1. Lol, that's what we always do right? Overload on one thing until we're sick of it. :P I'm kinda over the oranges, too, to be honest... but I still love me a good coral. :)

You're in a pink phase right now and that's a GREAT PLACE TO BE!!!

    2. I'm a bit baffled that orange lips are supposed to be the lip colour for this summer. Isn't it always orange every summer?

I checked out Sushi Kiss today but it looked kind of gross on my skin tone. Yeah, gonna keep with the pinks for now.

    3. It's not really "the" lip colour for summer. Keep in mind that MAC just decided to add these to the permanent range; it's not really for trend or season. Having previewed a lot of summer collections, it's not really all about orange this year. ;) I think the reason people associate corals and oranges as "summer" colours is because they look really good with a tan. And they're happy, sunny shades. :)

Sushi Kiss isn't the most flattering on many skintones, I agree. Razzledazzler and Flamingo are really nice, though, and not too orange or milky.

But yeah, you've been lacking in pinks for so long; you gotta make up for the lean years. ;)

  2. Ooooh, Sushi Kiss *_* Tangerine Dream looks really interesting, and I want it just because it's so different, but I know I'd never be able to wear it, lol!

    1. Both Sushi Kiss and Tangerine Dream are shades you REALLY need to try on. I don't recommend buying either blindly. I've seen TD look amazing on some people and like SCARY BAD on others. :P
