Glam is a medium vibrant blue-toned pinked red in a Matte finish. This is a re-promoted shade from 1992's Viva Glam collection, and is limited edition. It received 313,038 votes in the MAC By Request poll. It has a soft and creamy texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It is similar but more matte than MAC Red, more pink than Ruby Woo, and brighter and more blue-toned than Russian Red.
Pink Poodle is a medium vibrant blue-toned fuchsia pink with iridescent fuchsia and violet micro-shimmer in a Glaze finish. This is a re-promoted shade from 2000's Valentine's Day collection, and is limited edition. It received 391,741 votes in the MAC By Request poll. It has a soft and creamy texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has medium pigmentation and semi-sheer to semi-opaque colour pay-off. It is more blue-toned than Lustering, similar though sheerer than Lickable, and warmer and sheerer than Show Orchid.
Hoop is a light-medium warm-toned pink in a Satin finish. This is a re-promoted shade from 1991's Le Groove Colour collection, and is limited edition. It received 342,613 votes in the MAC By Request poll. It has a soft and creamy texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It is similar though a touch warmer than Please Me, warmer and more pigmented than Lovelorn, and lighter and more muted than Chatterbox.
More throwbacks! I am a little surprised at Pink Poodle getting the most votes in the polls, not because of the shade (because, let's be honest, fuchsia pink has been popular for years now), but because of the finish. Glaze finish lipsticks (or really, anything frosted or with iridescent shimmer) haven't really been that popular as of late (if the paltry permanent range of four shades are any indication). That having been said, it's an incredibly wearable fuchsia pink given the sheerer pigmentation and shiny finish. I'm not a huge fan of frosty finishes like this one has, but it is a nice pop of colour for spring without being too in-your-face. Glam, of course, is a classic retro cherry red — not the most unique shade given the amount of reds in MAC's permanent range now, but timeless and so, so gorgeous. The pink tone to it makes it a great red shade for the spring and summer months, and keeps it fresh and modern (proof that all trends get recycled, as this type of shade is still just as popular and relevant in the 2010s as it was back in the 1990s!). Finally, Hoop is a lovely ultra-wearable, everyday pink for everyone. It's not quite pastel or baby pink, and not too bright. Especially lovely for spring, given the softness of the shade, but I can see people wearing it all year round. In any case, if you're interested in any of these, they are available online now. Snatch 'em up before they're gone!
I wish there were more Glazes, actually! They are rather comfortable (from what I remember) and are sort of on target now for the sheer, balmy looks. Hoop is already sold out on the US site, I think. Shucks.
ReplyDeleteI like the formula enough, but aside from Hot Tahiti, I'm not a huge fan of the other permanent Glaze shades. To me, Glazes are really similar to Lustres and Cremesheens, so I can see why MAC hasn't put out more shades in the Glaze finish.
DeleteHoop is VERY similar to Please Me (which is permanent). And they're both Matte finishes. So despite Hoop being really pretty, you're not really missing out on too much!
I don't remember any of these, but I was only into nudes and browns in the '90s. All three look good! I can't get enough of bright and happy shades now. :)

DeleteI don't remember these - but I wasn't into makeup in the 90s. I do like Glam but it's a shame we can't order anything from MAC via Norway ;) Speaking of order, I ordered a Heritage Rouge pigment to be shipped to my hotel in Seattle and it arrived but I didn't open and check it. When I got back to Norway I realized the jar is broken. Any suggestions what jar to use and how to transfer it to another packaging option without losing all my beautiful Heritage Rouge?
ReplyDeleteLol, I was a child in the '90s, so I didn't wear make-up at all. :P It does suck that they don't offer these internationally. But Glam would probably look a lot like Ruby Woo on your skintone, so you can always check that out!
DeleteSorry to hear about your pigment! :( I suggest you go to a MAC Store and ask if you can get a sample container to put your pigment in. That's actually what I put my pigments in when I'm doing freelance!
Glam is fab, but Pink Poodle and Hoop are 'meh' to me. I love all red lipsticks as a general rule, but I honestly I don't wear them nearly enough, so I can't justify owning many more than I already have. It IS awfully bright and awesome, though!
ReplyDeleteI think Glam is a stunningly gorgeous red, but you're right, there are so many reds out there that it's hard to justify owning a lot of them. A lot of them end up looking very similar. Glam looks very much like MAC Red and Ruby Woo. :P

ReplyDeleteHaha, agreed! It's nice that the new generation of MAC addicts can get their hands on these shades, and those who used these shades in the '90s can get them again. :) MAC's never re-promoted shades from so long ago, so it's rather refreshing!
