20 Questions

Due to a promotion at work, I will be much busier going forward and so regular posts might become more infrequent. I don't want to neglect this blog, though, because I love blogging, so I may be doing more memes, tags, or survey-type posts as sort of "fillers" (though it's mostly because they're incredibly addictive to do). I was reading the February issue of Marie Claire and found this "20 Questions" survey that features Michelle Dockery, and decided it would be a fun one to do myself. So, here goes!

  1. What are your greatest indulgences? Cosmetics and going out to eat.
  2. What are three things on your last credit card statement? I got rid of my credit cards, but the last three purchases on my debit card are from Turtle Jack's (chicken buffalo wrap with fries and a caramel butter tart with vanilla ice cream 'cause I couldn't not get dessert), Wal-Mart (several new Hard Candy glitter nail polishes, two bottles of Fructis Hair Conditioner in Passion Splash and Grapefruit Tonic that were on sale for 2 for $6, two bags of Smartfood Sweet & Salty Kettlecorn, a box of tampons, and InStyle and Glamour magazines), and Green Grotto (a large white peach green tea and some French macarons).
  3. What is your biggest regret? No regrets. Not finishing university? Found my true calling in make-up artistry. Moving out with my ex-boyfriend at 20? Forced me to become a whole lot more responsible. I believe everything happens for a reason, and if I didn't make mistakes, I would never learn or grow-up.
  4. What can you not miss on TV? I don't really watch TV; the last thing I watched was the Oscars and before that, it was the Sochi 2014 Olympics Men's Hockey gold medal game. In terms of television series, I'm trying to catch up on Suits, but I download episodes and watch it on my computer rather than catch it on TV.
  5. What brings you the greatest joy? Music, novels, smoking, coffee, cosmetics, and going out to eat. And Ryan Gosling.
  6. What is on your bucket list? Skydiving.
  7. What is the best gift you've received? In terms of material goods, I would say my Apple MacBook Pro, which my mom got for me three years ago. Otherwise, I would say my education and all the traveling I got to do when I was younger.
  8. What is on your perennial to-do list? Travel more!
  9. What apps can you not live without? Well, I'm sure I could live without them, but my most-used apps are Instagram, Camera+, RBC Mobile Banking, Hay Day, Zookeeper Battle, and Words with Friends.
  10. What is your go-to karaoke/shower song? "Don't Speak" by No Doubt.
  11. What superstition do you believe in? Don't give your partner a pair of shoes or he/she will walk away from the relationship.
  12. Of the seven deadly sins, which one are you guilty of? Gluttony.
  13. What charities do you support? MAC AIDS Fund.
  14. Who are your heroes? I believe in ordinary people that do extraordinary things on a daily basis.
  15. What should every woman try at least once in her life? Traveling to another city or another country by herself.
  16. Who is on the guest list for your ideal dinner party? Ryan Gosling (obviously), Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Anna Kendrick, Kristen Bell, Jennifer Lawrence, Jason Segel, Rebel Wilson, Ellen DeGeneres, Tegan and Sara Quin, Paramore, Dave Grohl, Ellie Goulding, Emily Haines, Kevin Spacey, Will Ferrell, and J. K. Rowling.
  17. Do you have a secret talent? Don't know whether these are talents, but I can wiggle my ears and also pop out my hips.
  18. Who do you follow on Twitter? Some friends, several beauty bloggers, various YouTubers, a couple of favourite brands or companies, a few favourite musicians (e.g. Paramore, Tegan and Sara, Ellie Goulding, etc.), and a bunch of random celebrities that I like or find amusing (e.g. Anna Kendrick, Ellen DeGeneres, Kristen Bell, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Lena Dunham, etc.).
  19. How did you make your first dollar? As a summer job when I was 15, I was a receptionist for a Chinese buffet restaurant, so I took phone calls and reservations and processed credit cards. I wasn't officially on payroll (e.g. got paid under the table), but they paid me more than minimum wage for students at the time (which was $6.45). The restaurant doesn't exist anymore.
  20. What is one thing you wish you had known when you were younger? You can choose to be happy.

Feel free to do this yourself on your own blog, or even in the comments!

  1. I think Ellen would be a hilarious dinner guest!

I've heard that shoe one before. I just brought home shoes for S (to replace a pair that Dennison ruined when he was sick, LOL), but I used our joint account...LOL.

And congratulations, Denise!!! Woohoo, promotion! Celebrate!

    1. LOL! There's ways around that superstition, like they'll buy shoes for their partner but sell it to them for a penny. So I suppose your joint account thing is the same thing. :P

And thank you! It was kind of sudden, but it's a good challenge for me. :)

  2. Oooh, have you done #15 already? I keep thinking that I should make a solo trek somewhere (kind of have to, now that most friends are married and can't really take off on their families). I think it's going to be New Zealand. I'll go to Hobbiton and nerd out alone. :D

    1. I went to NYC by myself when I was 16. I mean, to be fair, it was for school so I stayed in dorms with roommates, but the whole thing was really eye-opening for me because I had never traveled by myself before, so I had to learn how to handle things by myself and how to deal with new people. I think that's why I'm so personable now, because I had to learn those types of communication skills at such a young age.

But I do want to do it again, as an adult. I think I'd do London or Paris. :)

    1. Oh, by all means! :) I took it from a magazine, so I can't take credit, lol.
