MAC A Fantasy of Flowers: Mineralize Blushes

Tuesday, February 4, 2014

This coming Thursday, MAC will be launching their first official Spring colour collection called A Fantasy of Flowers (it is currently available online). It is inspired by "a drifting dreamworld, bursting with brilliant blooms of colour... as a magical fantasy emerges glowing with a floral essence." This collection will see the launch of 35 products, 20 of which are new and limited edition, five of which are re-promotes, and ten of which are permanent. A Fantasy of Flowers will see the release of two shades of Mineralize Blush, both of which are new and limited edition shades. Mineralize Blushes consist of "baked minerals refined into a powder formula to provide exceptionally sheer and lightweight application. Colour builds lightly, layer after layer, without heavy coverage. Veils and enhances the cheekbones with a luminous, pearlized shimmer." Each Mineralize Blush comes in a regular black packaging with a clear lid, contains 3.2 grams of product, and retails for $29.50.

Azalea in the Afternoon

Petal Power

Azalea in the Afternoon and Petal Power

Azalea in the Afternoon is a light-medium slightly cool-toned petal pink with a soft frosted sheen. This is a new and limited edition shade. It has a lightweight, silky texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is cooler than Dainty, lighter and warmer than Gentle, warmer and more shimmery than Dame, and darker and warmer than Well Dressed.
Petal Power is medium brightened warm-toned pinked coral with a soft gold shimmer-sheen. This is a new and limited edition shade. It has a lightweight, silky texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is lighter and more pink than Gleeful, more orange and more shimmery than Fleur Power, brighter and more coral than Peachykeen, and darker and more pink than Springsheen.

Spring has sprung in the world of MAC! These shades are just so cheerful that I can't help but fall in love with them. I've always loved Mineralize Blushes for the way they look on the skin, as if it were apart of it rather than sitting on top of it. I've mentioned this before, but because Mineralize Blushes are baked, they have a drier, silkier texture (rather than buttery) than many of MAC's regular powder blushes. You can layer them and layer them and they will always keep that "skin-like" finish, so despite the intense amount of shimmer you can see when they're in the pan, it doesn't end up translating that metallic or frosted on the skin. Azalea in the Afternoon is a lovely pink shade that leans very slightly cool but will end up looking more neutral on warm skintones. For those who like Dainty but want something less yellow-toned but not as cool as Gentle, this is a great option. It is a nice shade for lighter complexions who wants a soft "bloom" of colour on the cheeks. On medium-dark to dark skintones, this shade may not show up very well and may look ashy.

Petal Power, on the other hand, is probably my favourite product of the entire collection. It should work well on all skintones, and I didn't find it too orange that it wouldn't flatter those with cooler skintones. What sets this apart from other coral shades is the gorgeous golden shimmer-sheen it leaves on the skin, almost like a built-in highlighter. Think of this as the slightly darker, more coral, more illuminating sister to Orgasm. Petal Power is definitely my top must-have from this collection, and will probably be one of my most-used blushes from Spring all the way until the end of Summer. The texture on both of these is so smooth, so lightweight, so silky; it applies and blends out beautifully, and looks seriously stunning on the skin. Without fail, I get compliments on how amazing my complexion looks every time I wear a Mineralize Blush. If you haven't yet discovered the beauty of Mineralize Blushes (one of my favourite blush formulas of all time, in fact — Warm Soul is actually my most used blush), now's the time!

  1. URGH Denise, you're killing me!!! I had decided to fully resist these blushes - even though I agree, the Mineralize blush formula is fab - but now of course I'm on the fence. I'm really trying to avoid buying colour right now, but DAY-UM Petal Power is right up my alley, and you make it sound so good!!

    2. Azalea e swatched way cooler than I thought! Both colors look quite pretty and it's good to know they're not as shimmery as they appear.

    3. Yeah, when I first saw Azalea, I thought it was going to be an exact dupe for Dainty! But I actually like that it's cooler -- like a Mineralize version of Dame, which is one of my favourite pinks from MAC. :) And, no, they're not overly shimmery, just perfectly glowy!

    1. This collection is really lovely, especially this time of year when it's still cold and dreary outside. Such a nice escape. :) And the Fluidlines are GORGEOUS, especially the green one. Definitely one of my top picks from this collection!

    1. LOL!!! There is never a time when I'm NOT into blush (or lipstick, for that matter). I know you're not really into this collection, but if there's one thing to get, it's Petal Power! :D
