MAC Magnetic Nude: Extra Dimension Skinfinish in Fairly Precious, Magnetic Appeal, and Superb

Yesterday, MAC released a new collection in-stores called Magnetic Nude, which was inspired by "your inner magnetism, as glimmering metallics and natural nudes redefine winter opulence." This collection consists of 26 products, of which 16 are new and limited edition, nine are re-promotes, and one is permanent. Magnetic Nude sees the release of three shades of Extra Dimension Skinfinish, featuring two new and limited edition shades, and one re-promoted shade. All the Extra Dimension products feature a "liquid-powder hybrid formula with prismatic reflections" that create a "luminous, visually arresting, well-defined finish." Each Extra Dimension Skinfinish features a wave design embossed on the surface with the MAC logo imprinted around it, and comes in regular black packaging, contains 9 grams of product, and retails for $35.

Clockwise from left: Fairly Precious, Magnetic Appeal, and Superb

Fairly Precious, Magnetic Appeal, and Superb

Fairly Precious is a light warm golden peach with a pearly sheen in an Extra Dimension finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. It has a lightweight, silky texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. There's nothing really similar to this in MAC's permanent range; it is much warmer and peachier than Soft and Gentle Mineralize Skinfinish, and lighter and peachier than Trace Gold Powder Blush.
Magnetic Appeal is a medium golden bronze with a golden sheen in an Extra Dimension finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. It has a lightweight, silky texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is lighter and less orange-toned than Sunbasque Powder Blush, and darker and more bronze than Golden Bronzing Powder.
Superb is a light rosy champagne beige with a pearly sheen in an Extra Dimension finish. This is a re-promoted shade from 2012's In Extra Dimension collection, and is limited edition. It has a lightweight, silky texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is similar though more pearlized and less metallic than Soft and Gentle Mineralize Skinfinish.

Oh, yes, Extra Dimension Skinfinishes are back! For those who are familiar with Estée Lauder's Pure Color Illuminating Powder Gelée, this is basically the same product. The finish, the texture, the look on skin... It makes sense, as Estée Lauder owns MAC, that they would recycle some of the same formulas. The good news is that if you missed out on Estée Lauder's versions or MAC's previous releases, you can now get your hands on them again! For those who don't like the way Mineralize Skinfinishes emphasize skin texture and pores, the Extra Dimension Skinfinishes will be much, much more appealing, as they give that amazing glow without nearly as much emphasis on skin texture. These are also much smoother than Mineralize Skinfinishes in both application and finish, and wear a lot longer as well (an average of eight to ten hours!) — seriously, these are a dream to work with. I really wish MAC would just make these permanent already, but alas, no such luck. If you missed out before, definitely check them out now before they sell out.

  3. I have Whisper of Gilt from some other release, and I love it! So I feel confident that I get to skip these :P Even though Magnetic Appeal is so...appealing :P

    1. Oh, yes, I love Whisper of Gilt! But that one is definitely more gold, whereas these ones are peachier/bronzier. :) I actually really love the look of Fairly Precious! I've been using it as my highlight for the past week and it's gorgeous on the skin -- more subtle than Whisper of Gilt and Superb, but still brightening. Absolutely stunning on darker skintones. It'll be my go-to highlight over the summer, me thinks. :)

  4. Again, I was so tempted by these and put Superb in my online cart....but I barely use my EL glee so I couldn't justify buying something else I might not use. This is the year of USING SHIT I ALREADY OWN my friend...but NEXT YEAR, look out!! LOL

    1. LOL! Actually, all of these would be gorgeous on you! Hopefully, they'll make this formula permanent at some point so you don't have to worry about snatching it up when it launches, lol.
