50 Random Facts About Me

This tag has been done all over YouTube and is probably one of the more popular ones out there, and I wanted to get in on the action, too. I love watching tag videos and reading tag posts, so I thought this was a good one to do as a sort of mid-week break from beauty-related posts and also to get a little more personal up in here.

  1. I've had a blog for over 15 years. You know, pre-Livejournal with dial-up modems.
  2. I am an Apple girl through and through. I've been using an iPod for 11 years, an Apple laptop for nine, and an iPhone for five. I just think Apple has gotten the whole "form meets function" thing down pat. (Oh, god. I've become a hipster.)

  3. I'm right-handed but my left hand is stronger.
  4. I am five-foot-four.
  5. I had braces when I was 11.
  6. I lived in NYC by myself for two months when I was 16 while studying Graphic Design at Parsons School of Design.
  7. I learned how to use chopsticks before a fork.
  8. I sleep in band tees that I picked up at concerts over the years.

  9. I prefer cold pizza to hot pizza.
  10. I am ridiculously scared of paranormal activity and occult-related things. Like, I refuse to even get close to a Ouija board.
  11. I have an irrational fear of fake hair (e.g. wigs), which explains my fear of dolls and clowns. But I'm fine with false lashes.
  12. My first car was a black 2004 Hyundai Tiburon. I felt pretty bad-ass driving it.
  13. I got my first and only (knock on wood) speeding ticket driving that car when I was 18. I was going 30 km/h above speed limit.
  14. I've been a smoker for a decade. No, I'm not ready to quit yet.

  15. I did five years of university (at two different schools!) and don't have a degree to show for it (I majored in Graphic Communications Management and minored in Marketing, and then majored in English Literature). But I'm okay with that, because I found what I love to do.
  16. I do have a diploma in Make-up Artistry, which is what really counts in my field, anyway.
  17. All of my jobs in my entire adult life have been in the cosmetics industry.
  18. My favourite animal is the polar bear.
  19. The first movie I ever watched was My Neighbor Totoro, when I was four. My dad had recorded it on VHS. I've been obsessed with Studio Ghibli films ever since, and have a gigantic Totoro plush in ode to them.

  20. The first movie I ever watched in a theatre was Aladdin.
  21. I didn't take my first bubble bath until I was 25. And now I'm sort of addicted to them.
  22. While I can appreciate desserts, I've always preferred savoury foods to sweet.
  23. If I had to pick a favourite beverage of all time, it would probably be Simply Limeade. Or the strawberry lemonade at The Cheesecake Factory. What can I say, I like my "ades."
  24. My most used lipsticks are a tie between MAC's Viva Glam I, MAC's Faux, and Chanel's Rouge Coco Shine in Rivage. Like, I'm actually close to using them up. (Gasp!)

  25. I really appreciate a good greeting card. Nobody bothers to write cards anymore.
  26. I've always preferred cold weather to hot weather, partially because of bugs (and mosquito bites), partially because I love layering clothes and outerwear, and partially because heat makes me sweat and sweat gives me rashes and eczema.
  27. I can type an average of 130 WPM on my MacBook Pro keyboard. I can type an average of 120 WPM on a standard QWERTY keyboard. (You can test your typing speed here!)
  28. I am allergic to penicillin. Not deathly allergic, but my face totally swells up, to the point where you can't see my eyes anymore.
  29. I'm not a picky eater and I'm always down to try new foods, but I hate coriander (or cilantro or Chinese parsley) and thusly I always have to pick it off if it's in my dish.
  30. I started taking swimming lessons when I was three and did all of my Canadian Red Cross Swim levels (back when there were colour badges!) by the time I was 11. When I was 13, I started the Lifeguarding program, but quit pretty short after. I have not swam or been in a swimming pool since then.
  31. I was somewhat tomboy-ish growing up. Not in a rowdy, climbing trees, playing-in-mud way ('cause that would mean getting dirty, and I've always been a germaphobe). I liked to play Pogs, ride my bicycle, draw, and make lanyard bracelets.
  32. I actually taught myself how to ride a bike when I was seven, because I was jealous that my brother could ride one. So I'd take his bike every afternoon and try balancing on it myself until I could ride properly.
  33. I have never owned a Barbie. Or any doll, for that matter. (Refer to #11.)
  34. But I loved plush toys. My oldest stuffed animal is a little polar bear named Snuffles, which I've had since I was six. I got his "mom" a couple years later.

  35. All I used to buy with my allowance as a kid was Archie comics. I would buy two or three a week and collect them in boxes when I was done reading them. By the time I decided to recycle them, I had about 400 comics.
  36. I wasn't allowed to wear nail polish until I was 15. And even then, it was clear.
  37. I wasn't allowed to wear make-up until I was 16. And even then, it was just face powder.
  38. My favourite flower is the dahlia.
  39. I have been to 18 countries in three continents.
  40. I didn't have my first boyfriend until I was 19.
  41. I've never had an office job. In fact, none of my jobs have allowed me to sit while on shift.
  42. My favourite TV show of all time is Gilmore Girls. Followed closely by Veronica Mars.
  43. I don't drink because I can't metabolize alcohol properly. One drink or a beer won't have any effect, but any more than that, and I black out and then sweat it out like a fever.
  44. I have a phobia of vomit. Like, I can't vomit myself, and I can't watch other people vomit. Or look at vomit.
  45. I played the piano for six years and then the violin for nine.
  46. I think the one thing that I could eat during every single meal of the day is bread.
  47. I desperately miss ABC's TGIF line-up in the '90s, especially shows like Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, Boy Meets World, Step by Step, You Wish, Teen Angel, and Clueless.
  48. I actually read way more than I watch TV shows now. I try to finish at least one novel a week, and if I don't have new one to read, I'll actually re-read an old book rather than turn on the TV.
  49. I used to be extremely addicted to The Sims. And then The Sims 2, and consequently, The Sims 3. I would play from the moment I woke up to the time I would go to bed. The longest I've ever played is 16 hours. And then it occurred to me that I was spending more time living my Sim's life than living my own and knew I had to stop.
  50. My favourite food from McDonald's is the Filet-O-Fish, followed very closely by the Egg & Sausage McMuffin.
I tag all of you to do this!

  1. I think we might be the same person sometimes. And then not.

But I lOVE polar bears, as well. I was in a class in college and we were asked for favorite animals, so the first one that popped in my head (I can't really choose) was a polar bear...the girl before me had said penguin, and the asshole (and stupid) TA was like "What? What a mean animal. Omg the polar bears will eat the penguins."

Yeah. They live on opposite ends of the earth, moron.

    ANYWAY.

Story time with Larie is now over, lol!

    1. Maybe our tastes are similar but our habits aren't? :P

LOL!!! Polar bears eat SEALS. Anyway, are there meaner animals on the planet than humans? I THINK NOT. Your TA was stupid. :P

    1. Haha, I had soooo many of those AOL disks. Ahhhh, how I miss the '90s.

I actually really love Tegan and Sara's latest album. It's definitely their most pop album and by far the most commercial, but it's unabashedly so. I mean, they did say that they wanted to do something big, something different. They've been in the industry for nearly 15 years, and didn't want to keep coming out with the same sound over and over again, and I respect that. I think Heartthrob is vastly different and experimental, but is ultimately well written, well produced, and insanely catchy. :)

Awww, neapolitan bears! So cute! I love my Gund bears. <3

I am waiting for the Veronica Mars movie with bated breath.

  3. Oh man, 50 facts is a lot. I loved reading this but I would not be able to sit through a YT video!

I'm the opposite of you re: reading/TV now. I stopped reading after my last course and just started to pick up books again. I think my brain just short circuited for a time. Some days I just get home and stream TV shows all night.

Speaking of which, I CANNOT FREAKING WAIT FOR THE VERONICA MARS MOVIE.

I don't like ghost movies either. I can watch them at the time, but they scare the crap out of me at random moments later while sitting at home alone or something. Ughhhhhh.

    1. Haha, I think 50 facts sounds like a lot, but it goes by pretty fast in a YT video. I can only watch them if I genuinely like the YouTuber, though. Some of them are waaayyyy too annoying.

Liz, I am going to watch the Veronica Mars movie like, six times in the theatre and then stream it online over and over again until it comes out on DVD and then I will watch it every week for the rest of my life because THAT IS HOW MUCH I LOVE VERONICA MARS.

  4. Good job on getting to 50 - I don't think I could ever do it! And Fillet-O-Fish <3! I use to order at least 2 at one time LOL and would probably do it again if I didn't feel like a total pig afterwards. :P

    1. It was actually quite hard to think of 50 completely random and new facts that I hadn't posted about here before! I think I just kept compiling facts for like, a week, and then posted it all in one go, lol.

Omg, I'm the same way. One Filet-O-Fish is never enough 'cause they're so damn small... but they're actually one of the most fattening burgers on the menu, LOL.
