MAC Pro Longwear: Pro Longwear Paint Pots

Today, MAC will launch a new extension collection called Pro Longwear. This collection sees the release of 28 products — 18 of which are new and permanent, two of which are re-promotes and now permanent, and eight of which are already permanent. There are 12 shades of Pro Longwear Paint Pot being released with this collection, but I will only be reviewing five shades here. The Pro Longwear Paint Pot has the same formula as the original Paint Pot, but now has a new long-wear claim — all existing shades of Paint Pot will be called Pro Longwear Paint Pot going forward. MAC describes Pro Longwear Paint Pot as "a highly pigmented eye colour that goes on creamy but dries to an intense, vibrant finish. Long-wearing, colourfast. Creates seamless coverage without weight or caking." They are water-resistant and wear up to 15 hours. They are packaged in a glass jar with a black plastic lid. Each Pro Longwear Paint Pot comes with 5 grams of product, and retails for $24.

Clockwise from bottom: Camel Coat, Stormy Pink, Tailor Grey, Clearwater, and Chrome Angel

Camel Coat, Stormy Pink, Tailor Grey, Clearwater, and Chrome Angel

Camel Coat is a light-medium cool-toned grey-beige in a matte finish. This is a new and permanent shade. The texture is soft and creamy, and it goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It is lighter and more cool-toned than Tailor Grey, more grey and more matte than Groundwork, and slightly darker and cooler than Omega Eyeshadow.
Stormy Pink is a medium-dark cool-toned muted mauve in a matte finish. This is a new and permanent shade. The texture is soft and creamy, and it goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. There is currently nothing similar within MAC's permanent Pro Longwear Paint Pot range. In terms of colour, it is similar to Haux Eyeshadow, and more purple than Quarry Eyeshadow.
Tailor Grey is a medium-dark warm-toned brown-taupe in a matte finish. This is a new and permanent shade. The texture is soft and creamy, and it goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It is cooler than Groundwork, darker and more brown than Camel Coat, and darker and cooler than Wedge Eyeshadow.
Clearwater is a light cool-toned muted aqua blue in a matte finish. This is a new and permanent shade. The texture is soft and creamy, and it goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. There is currently nothing similar within MAC's permanent Pro Longwear Paint Pot range. In terms of colour, it is darker than Aqua Eyeshadow (PRO), and more muted and less shimmery than Sky Blue Eyeshadow (PRO).
Chrome Angel is a pale brightened silver with silver shimmer-sheen. This is a new and permanent shade. The texture is soft and creamy, and it goes on smoothly and evenly. It has medium pigmentation and semi-opaque colour pay-off. It is less pink than Let's Skate!, less gold than Chilled on Ice, and more silver than Bare Study.

Those who wanted more matte Paint Pots can now rejoice! Last year, MAC incorporated seven new and permanent metallic Paint Pots (see them here and here), which are fun and pretty, but they desperately needed to add more matte shades. These are extremely welcome additions to MAC's Paint Pot range because they fill the necessary gaps that were missing, especially for use as eyeshadow bases. Up until now, many people found MAC's matte Paint Pots to be too yellow (Soft Ochre) or too pink (Painterly) or too light (Bare Study) or too dark (Quite Natural) for use as eyeshadow bases, and now I can honestly say that there's something for everyone. I find that the matte shades wear a whole lot longer now without creasing or budging (about 12 hours before starting to fade), so they work beautifully as eyeshadow bases (you can rub as much as you want, these suckers don't come off without make-up remover). The more shimmery shades have a much shorter wear-time (about six hours before starting to fade), so I like them more as highlights or eyeshadow colours rather than bases. MAC says that they didn't change the formula from the old Paint Pot, but I do genuinely find these to be longer wearing without creasing (my Soft Ochre from back in the day would crease within a couple hours!).

  1. I've been eyeballing Camel Coat and Tailor Grey! Totally feeling those shades right now. I might have to make an order if they pass the swatch test!

    1. They're both great neutral colours with good pigmentation and staying power -- perfect eyeshadow bases! And they'll work for all year round, too, if you're wearing them on their own. :)

  2. Ooo these would be great to have! All my cream shadows are shimmery and it's been hard to find matte cream shadows. The Camel Coat looks the best for a nice neutral eye

    1. Camel Coat is probably the most versatile shade of this release -- I have a feeling that it'll be the next Painterly or Soft Ochre for a staple eyeshadow base. :) Definitely worth checking out!

  3. I picked up Layin Low as it looks like it'll be the right matte shade for my skintone (which, as you stated, many of the other matte shades just DO NOT WORK FOR EVERYONE). I'm looking forward to seeing how it fares! I'm actually diggin' most of these overall :)

    1. I didn't have Layin' Low to review, but it's a gorgeous warm honey-tan shade that would work beautifully on you! :) I find that these new matte ones hold up really, really well -- better than I ever remember Paint Pots being. According to MAC, they didn't change the formula, but I swear they wear longer and stay crease-free longer!
