MAC All About Orange: Lipsticks (Part II)

on
Saturday, June 8, 2013

This past Thursday, MAC released a new collection in stores called All About Orange, which is inspired by the orange colour trend in Korea and "its vibrant energy and modern edge [that] ignites fashion and beauty big time throughout the world. It's one of the new global super-shades that pops with sizzle and cool sophistication." All About Orange consists of 18 products, and sees the release of seven shades of Lipstick — four of which are new and limited edition, and three of which are re-promotes. Each lipstick comes in regular black packaging, contains 3 grams of product, and retails for $18. These are applicable for the Back to MAC recycling program.

Sweet & Sour, Tangerine Dream, and Tart & Trendy

Sweet & Sour, Tangerine Dream, and Tart & Trendy

Sweet & Sour is a light pinked peach in a Cremesheen finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. The texture is soft and creamy, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It is slightly lighter and more pigmented than Shy Girl, more peach than Pure Zen, and lighter and more pink than Gotta Dash! Sheen Supreme Lipstick.
Tangerine Dream is a medium brightened yellow-orange in an Lustre finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. The texture is soft and creamy, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has medium-high pigmentation and semi-opaque to opaque buildable colour pay-off. There is nothing really similar to this in MAC's permanent range; it is brighter and more orange than Sheer Mandarin Sheen Supreme Lipstick.
Tart & Trendy is a medium bright neutral orange in a Lustre finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. The texture is soft and creamy, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has medium-high pigmentation and semi-opaque to opaque buildable colour pay-off. There's nothing really similar to this in MAC's permanent range; it is sheerer and more muted than Saigon Summer, and lighter and less reddened than Morange and Good to Go Pro Longwear Lipcreme.

Calling all fans of orange/peach/coral lipsticks! MAC has another seven options for you to drool over, just in time for summer. Of the seven, Sweet & Sour is the lightest shade of the range and also mixes pink into it, so it will be a nice "nude" option for fair to medium skintones. Tangerine Dream is likely the hardest to wear shade in the collection because it has such strong yellow tones to it and therefore makes teeth look yellow and complexions look sallow. It might be a nice option for those who have very natural reddened lips, though, as there is a translucency to it. Tart & Trendy is great for those who want a true bright orange that doesn't lean too yellow or too red. It's like a softer version of Sounds Like Noise from the Hayley Williams collection, so for those who thought Sounds Like Noise was a little too bright or yellow-toned, this might be a good option. What I love most about the range of these lipsticks is that they're actually really quite different from one another, so if you love orange-toned lipsticks, they're all worth taking a look at.

  1. Tarte & Trendy! How does it compare to Morange? Like a subtler younger sister?

WHYYYYYY do these have to be LE?

    1. Morange is darker and much more reddened than Tart & Trendy! But I think the Lustre finish on it makes it more wearable. :)

LOL, that's what MAC does best... Make everything LE to create a crazy hype...

  2. I'm sitting here close to tears. The shop in Oslo got 2 lipsticks - both were the creamy, milky shades that don't suit me. 2 lipsticks, 2 blushes (Honey something was too sheer on me) and 2 nail polishes. That's it. They didn't get the rest of the collection :(

    1. :( I'm sorry, Fieran! That sucks to hear! I'm surprised that Honey Jasmine was too sheer on you -- I find that on the cheeks, it looks really quite bright! BUT... MAC does have a ton of other orange options within their permanent range that you can look at. Lipsticks in Morange, Neon Orange (if you are by a PRO store), Vegas Volt, Lady Danger, So Chaud, Korean Candy, and Lady at Play are all lovely options! As for blushes, I love Ambering Rose and Peachtwist on darker skintones. Not exactly ORANGE, per se, but in that warm, orange-based family. :)

    2. Aww, thank you Denise. It was weird, it's like they barely wanted to sell the collection here. The MUA was like "oh this is a very small collection" and I was like "Err, no..there are at least 6 lipsticks in the collection and an eyeshadow quad." Heh, can't argue with a makeup junkie :)

I have So Chaud but I can only wear it on days when my lips are not dry and flaky. It is a gorgeous colour though. Shall wear it again soon.

Vegas Volt is a bit creamy for me. You know, like miky? I am yet to try Vegas Volt, Morange, Korean Candy and Lady at Play. Hmm, now I'm tempted. Will definitely take a look the next time I'm there.

What A Blast! Lipliner is that gorgeous orange shade right? *DROOOL* I have to credit you for making me daring enough to wear bright lipsticks. Wearing Full Fucshia today. Love it :)

      Thanks again!

    3. Haha, true, you especially can't argue with MAC addicts. :P True MAC addicts do all their research first! But it sucks that the rest of the collection didn't ship internationally. :(

I know what you mean by Vegas Volt, it is more of a milky coral. But definitely try Morange and Lady at Play. Soooo pretty! And yes, What A Blast! is the bright orange Pro Longwear Lip Pencil. :)

And you're welcome, LOL. Bright lipsticks are SO MUCH FUN!!! Full Fuchsia is GORGEOUS -- sucks that it's PRO only!

  3. I really wanted Tart & Trendy, but it sold out online quickfast (surprize) and I held myself away from the mall and I'm certain it'll be sold out there too. Probably for the best, but I still believe it was the best shade of the bunch!

    1. Tart & Trendy is definitely one of my faves from this launch, along with Flamingo and Razzledazzler (though both are re-promotes). :) LE lipsticks usually sell out fast in-store, and I know this particular collection (aside from Tangerine Dream, lol) sold out within the day of launch for a lot of locations. HOWEVER... if you like Tart & Trendy, Sounds Like Noise from the Hayley Williams collection, which is a touch brighter and darker, may interest you! (It's an online exclusive lipstick, and it's not sold out!)

  4. Sweet and Sour is GAWGEOUSS!! I LOVE Morange, but there are days when neon orange just won't do which is why Tarte & Trendy seems like the perfect middle ground between BLAH and IN 'YO FACE! IN 'YO FACE!!!

    UGH. DENISSEEEE you're torturing me!!!

    1. LOL!!! You kill me, Mary. Tarte & Trendy is pretty in-your-face, but it's not as neon as Morange, it's true, lol. You can always try on Saigon Summer on top of What A Blast! lip liner... It should be a pretty dead-on dupe. :)
