MAC Fashion Sets (2013): Lip Pencils

Friday, April 5, 2013

Yesterday, MAC released a new collection called Fashion Sets, which features four different colour sets that include a lipstick, lip gloss, lip pencil, eyeshadow, and nail lacquer. As such, this collection is comprised of 20 products — 17 of which are new and limited edition, and three of which are re-promotes. To avoid any confusion, each product is sold separately, despite being called "sets." Unlike last year's Fashion Sets, this year's version is comprised of four non-permanent shades. Fashion Sets features four lip pencils — three of which are new and limited edition and one of which is a re-promote and limited edition. Each lipstick comes in regular black packaging, contains 1.45 grams of product, and retails for $18.

Ablaze, Silly, Embrace Me, and Heroine

Ablaze, Silly, Embrace Me, and Heroine

Ablaze is a medium-dark vibrant reddened coral with a matte finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. The texture is on the drier side, so it can drag and go on a bit unevenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It is slightly darker than Lasting Sensation, and slightly lighter and more orange than Redd.
Silly is a medium vibrant cool-toned bubblegum pink with a matte finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. The texture is fairly soft, and it goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It is much darker and less cool-toned than Hip 'n' Happy.
Embrace Me is a medium-dark vibrant cool-toned fuchsia pink with a matte finish. This is re-promoted shade from 2011's Tour de Fabulous collection, and is limited edition. The texture is on the drier side, but it goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It is warmer than Magenta, and cooler than More to Love Pro Longwear Lip Pencil.
Heroine is a dark vibrant magenta-purple with a matte finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. The texture is soft and creamy, and it goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It is darker and more purple than Magenta.

I personally like wearing lip pencil if I'm wearing a bright or dark colour because I find that it makes lips look more polished and the lip line more crisp and defined. Moreover, lip pencils help lipstick and lip gloss wear significantly longer; these ones wear up to six hours and leave a stain so it appears to wear even longer. If you've been looking for some brighter shades of lip pencil from MAC, these are definitely worth taking a look at — MAC has slowly been adding brighter shades to their permanent lip pencil range, but these do fill in a necessary gap and are different enough to be worth getting. My must-have from these shades is Heroine; it's completely different than anything MAC has to offer in the permanent range, and it has a smooth, creamy formula.

  1. I really should indulge myself in a bright colored liner - I wear bright lips about half the time but have to reapply often and it never looks crisp like you mentioned. I thought that was the way I wanted it - to look a bit more casual - but maybe it would be nice to try looking more polished once in a while too :P These colors are gorgeous!

    1. You can always lightly dab on a bright lipstick for a casual daytime look, but yeah, if you want to have that nice, crisp, bold lip? Lip liner is your BEST FRIEND. They're also indispensable for mixing with lipsticks and glosses to create new and different lip colours! For example, Heroine liner with Viva Glam Nicki 2 on top is a gorgeous mid-tone magenta. :)

      Definitely look into these guys!!!
