MAC Fashion Sets (2013): Eyeshadows

Yesterday, MAC released a new collection called Fashion Sets, which features four different colour sets that include a lipstick, lip gloss, lip pencil, eyeshadow, and nail lacquer. As such, this collection is comprised of 20 products — 17 of which are new and limited edition, and three of which are re-promotes. To avoid any confusion, each product is sold separately, despite being called "sets." Unlike last year's Fashion Sets, this year's version is comprised of four non-permanent shades. Fashion Sets features four new and limited edition shades of eyeshadow. Each eyeshadow comes in regular black packaging, contains 1.5 grams of product, and retails for $18. These are applicable for the Back to MAC recycling program at MAC Stores only.

Clockwise from bottom: Ablaze, Silly, Embrace Me, and Heroine

Ablaze, Silly, Embrace Me, and Heroine

Ablaze is a medium vibrant tangerine-coral in a Matte finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. The texture is soft and silky, and it goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is softer and more coral than Rule, and darker and more orange than Free to Be.
Silly is a light-medium cool-toned cotton candy pink in a Frost finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. This looks more like a Satin finish; it has a slight sheen but isn't metallic or shimmery. The texture is soft and silky, and it goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is much lighter and less frosted than Swish, and darker and less frosted than Pink Freeze.
Embrace Me is a medium-dark vibrant fuchsia pink with red undertones in a Satin finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. The texture is soft and silky, and it goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is more pink than Passionate.
Heroine is a medium vibrant periwinkle blue in a Satin finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. The texture is soft and silky, and it goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is more purple than Winkle.

All four shades had gorgeous textures across the board — soft and finely-milled with full colour pay-off. I was kind of surprised how smooth they went on considering the flatter finishes, since many Matte and Satin eyeshadows can have dry textures and go on patchy. These ones don't look powdery at all, either. On that note, I'm surprised that these eyeshadows look so different in colour than their other counterparts in the collection — Fashion Sets are all about matching "sets" of colour, and these look nothing like their complementary products (e.g. Heroine eyeshadow is way more blue than Heroine lipstick and lip pencil). That having been said, if you are looking for bright, non-shimmery shades, these are definitely worth looking at.

  1. I like the matching colour idea, but yeah, what's up with Heroine? It's like someone in the lab was colourblind.

    1. LOL, right?! I was rather disappointed, 'cause I think they could have created such a gorgeous matching purple eyeshadow. :(

  2. Definitely weird about the match-fail! While I love brights in a lot of ways, I've come to realize that bright shadow just isn't something I wear. I love to look at them and swoon over swatches, but then they just sit in my drawer sadly unused :(

    1. WHATTTTT. Your skintone can pull off the MOST bright colours without looking insane or trashy!!! I think the key is what you blend in the bright colour with. For example, gold and purples look AAAMMMAAAZING together, especially on darker skintones. (I do this combo A LOT on Indian brides, actually!) MAC colours you DEFINITELY need to try: Amber Lights, Coppering, Star Violet, Cranberry.
